In simple terms, PlayStation is highly respected due to its exceptional exclusive games, and in 2025, fans can anticipate the releases of Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei. In the distant future, Intergalactic by Naughty Dog is something fans should be excited about. Currently, details about Intergalactic are scarce, but it’s expected to be distinct from both The Last of Us and Uncharted series. In a recent interview, the director of The Last of Us 2 acknowledged that Sony allows Naughty Dog the liberty to create diverse experiences instead of forcing them to continue making Uncharted games.
The Last of Us 2 director praises Sony for “freedom” given to Naughty Dog
In a recent chat with Colin Moriarty for Last Stand Media (conducted by Genki_JPN), the director and studio head at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, shared his insights.
In the interview, Druckmann commended Sony for granting Naughty Dog an ample amount of creative autonomy, allowing them to adhere to their own vision. He added that Sony has consistently shown strong support, even in instances where decisions might appear contentious from an external perspective.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share an interesting perspective from Neil Druckmann, one of the directors. He mentioned that the decision to conclude Nathan Drake’s story in “Uncharted 4” and shift focus to “The Last of Us” was a contentious move at the time. The reason being, Naughty Dog was opting to abandon Uncharted, a series at the pinnacle of its success, for a completely fresh concept.
In conclusion, the Head of Naughty Dog Studio expressed that other publishers might have refused additional projects while the Uncharted series was still profitable. However, Sony chose not to compel Naughty Dog to continue with Uncharty because, as Druckmann explains, PlayStation recognizes that the developer creates their finest work when they are genuinely enthusiastic and passionate about a project.

It’s been quite some time since the release of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in 2017, featuring Chloe and Nadine, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in 2016 starring Nathan Drake. Currently, there are no solid indications or leaks suggesting a new Uncharted game is underway at Naughty Dog, but their creative director Neil Druckmann has mentioned they’re working on an unannounced project other than Intergalactic. Many fans are speculating that this secret project could potentially be The Last of Us 3, another Uncharted sequel, or even a completely new intellectual property. So, we can only wait and see what surprises Naughty Dog has in store for us.
Speaking of PlayStation updates, a job posting hints that Tomb Raider 12 could be nearing completion in its development phase, and a key figure behind Death Stranding 2 has acknowledged that PS5 games may not exhibit significantly improved visuals compared to those on the PS4.
