As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that The Jackbox Naughty Pack has become a new staple in my party game rotation. With its adult-oriented humor and outrageous antics, this M-rated offering from Jackbox Games is sure to keep any gathering lively and laughter-filled.
For about ten years now, Jackbox Games has grown from producing trivia games to creating some of the funniest and most outrageous party games you can find. When played by adults, these games often become quite risqué, so it’s only appropriate that they have released their first M-rated game, The Jackbox Naughty Pack. As our preview explains, this pack includes two popular returning titles and a new offering that revolves around debating topics.
In my initial assessment, I had a minor concern about Fakin’ It All Night Long functioning well in remote play sessions. However, I am pleased to share that the game operates seamlessly when played remotely. While it’s always beneficial to know your gaming companions for an enjoyable experience, the remote mode involves players answering questions while one participant receives alternative prompts. The task is to determine who is being untruthful among the group. Ranging from queries about their personal lives to preferences, there are several amusing and diverse questions to explore. This game turned out to be my entire group’s favorite due to its constant humor and the intrigue of deciphering who isn’t telling the truth.
Another game making a comeback is Twisted Pictionary, a spin-off from Pictionary featuring risqué and suggestive prompts. While my Pictionary games often resulted in sketches of male genitalia anyway, this version doesn’t seem to alter things significantly. The amusing aspect lies in creating titles for each drawing and then trying to guess the correct official title. It’s an entertaining experience regardless of one’s artistic skills, and it was delightfully enjoyed by everyone in our group, including myself.
The game titled “Let Me Finish,” which caused more controversy among its peers, is a debate-style game that involves answering absurd questions such as identifying which chess piece is always amorous or satisfying a musical instrument. To truly enjoy this game, one needs to listen to all the players instead of merely streaming it. The ideal group consists of participants who are eager to respond to the whimsical queries and express strong opinions. However, some prompts seem outdated as they refer to bronies, a term I haven’t encountered in years. Despite its flaws, with the right group, it can still be entertaining. In comparison, the other two games are exceptional.
To ensure everyone enjoys this mature content appropriately, I’d like to discuss the content control settings. Players have the freedom to regulate the maturity level, deciding what they see. There are three options for profanity filtering: keep offensive language and curse words, remove them, or let it all through if you prefer. You can also add moderators for live streaming purposes, and customize the settings to suit your needs, such as eliminating US-specific prompts if you’re an international player.
The above are all smart inclusions, and there are a number of nice quality-of-life settings here, too. For example, you can join games via QR code rather than manually typing in the codes online. There are also subtitles and extended timers (or even the ability to turn them off) if you want them, as Jackbox offers some great accessibility settings.
The Jackbox Naughty Pack Review: Final Verdict
The Jackbox Naughty Pack delivers on its title by offering an entertaining M-rated experience filled with plenty of laughter when played among friends. Though the latest addition falls short compared to its counterparts, the two reprised games are pure fun. It’s a great addition to any group’s game night lineup and I can’t wait to keep coming back for more party gaming sessions.
SCORE: 8/10
According to ComingSoon’s review guidelines, a rating of 8 signifies “Great.” Although there are some minor flaws, this indicates that the artwork achieves its purpose effectively and leaves a lasting impression.
As a gaming enthusiast, I received a complimentary digital PlayStation 5 copy of The Jackbox Naughty Pack for the purpose of this review. I’ve conducted my assessment based on version 1.000.000.
