Kieran Culkin cast as Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
In the formal statement from Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s co-president Erin Westerman, it was announced that Kieran has been cast. She praised his ability to captivate an audience with his charisma, making him a perfect fit for Caesar Flickerman, the enchanting and compelling host of Panem’s most chilling show.
Nina Jacobson, the producer, added in her statement, “Kieran’s charm, humor, and unconventionality perfectly suit Caesar Flickerman. Much like a host such as Caesar, Kieran has the ability to turn violence into entertainment, and his multifaceted acting skills ensure we stay engaged.
On November 20, 2026, the film version of “Sunrise at the Reaping,” directed by Francis Lawrence and scripted by Billy Ray, will hit theaters. This movie is a prequel to the original series, set in Panem 24 years prior to its initial events as depicted in Suzanne Collins’ novel.
The narrative centers around a youthful character portrayed by Joseph Zada, who goes by the name Haymitch Abernathy. This unfolds in the 50th Hunger Games, more famously known as the Second Quarter Quell. In this rendition of the competition, the stakes are significantly higher than the usual yearly event. The ensemble additionally features Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, Ben Wang, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Molly McCann, and Iona Bell.
The Sunrise on the Reaping book sold over 1.5 million copies during its first week, with 1.2 million of those sales happening in the U.S. This surpassed The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ debut by double and Mockingjay’s by triple. Actor Kieran Culkin has recently garnered an Oscar for his performance in A Real Pain and an Emmy for Succession. He is currently starring in the sold-out Broadway play, Glengarry Glen Ross. Professionally, he is managed by WME, Brookside Artist Management, and Relevant.
