The HKSTP ‘I&T Powerhouse’: Soft Power Meets Hard Impact

As a gamer, I’d say: It’s not just about raw strength, it’s about impact, momentum, and creating a unique gaming culture. And that’s exactly what the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is doing with their groundbreaking initiative called the HKSTP Innovation & Technology (I&T) Powerhouse. They’re pushing forward to put Hong Kong on the global map as a force to be reckoned with in technology.

This is an example of soft power at work, supported by HKSTP’s six-part network of people: advisors, partners, alumni, mentors, advocates, and creators. Taken together, they make up a dynamic community of innovators and trailblazers, eager to drive progress, foster innovation, and collaborate in order to exert influence and inspire change.

To get things started, HKSTP organized the “Dawn of Visionaries” – a significant event aimed at presenting the “Innovation and Technology Powerhouse”. This event was attended by some of the brightest minds in the I&T sector. To creatively represent this brilliant gathering, HKSTP collaborated with TopMob to design a captivating visual identity and promotional video. The colors used – dusky blue and warm orange – symbolize the visionary ideas that will pave new paths for HKSTP and innovation, much like the dawn breaking. At the event, HKSTP Chairman Dr Sunny Chai and CEO Albert Wong emphasized that when visionaries come together and persevere, the potential is boundless.

Distinguished personalities have joined forces with Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP), including Dr. Allan Zeman, Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Group, and Ambassador George Hara, the head of DEFTA Partners, who will serve as advisors to HKSTP. Dr. Zeman, who is confident in Hong Kong’s potential as a global technology hub, plans to apply his innovative strategies and branding expertise to enhance HKSTP’s profile. On the other hand, Ambassador Hara’s investment acumen and knowledge in biomedicine will guide the strategic allocation of resources for HKSTP’s portfolio, particularly in investment areas.

As a gamer immersed in the dynamic world of technology, I’ve recently discovered an incredible hub that’s been making waves – the “I&T Powerhouse” of HKSTP. Although it may be new in name, its influence is anything but fresh.

In their global campaign, “Keep Up,” they’ve showcased some groundbreaking innovations that have flexed Hong Kong’s leadership in innovation on a global scale. For instance, Professor Dennis Lo’s non-invasive prenatal testing has saved countless lives, DJI’s revolutionary aerial photography capabilities have redefined our perspective, and Archireef’s 3D-printed reef tiles are set to preserve the beauty of our coral reefs.

These advancements serve as proof that Hong Kong’s tech scene is unstoppable and that innovators everywhere can indeed drive real change. It’s an inspiring reminder that we all have the power to make a difference.

The “I&T Powerhouse” represents the newest stage in the “Keep Up” initiative. Collaborating with partners such as Cathay Pacific, Monocle, South China Morning Post, Fortune, Bloomberg, and BBC, this campaign has managed to touch over 19 million people worldwide across more than 240 different locations, and the number keeps growing.

Hilda Chan, CMO of HKSTP, stated that we are uniting people worldwide to stay in step with our Technology Innovation Hub. The upcoming international event features key figures discussing significant topics, generating novel ideas and fostering teamwork. Additionally, we’re merging technology, art, and culture by employing striking visuals to reinterpret technology artistically and spark cultural debates that will influence the future.
