The Gentlemen season 2 renewed with Theo James and Kaya Scodelario returning

As a die-hard fan who has been eagerly waiting for updates on “The Gentlemen,” I can hardly contain my excitement! The news of a second season is like a breath of fresh air, and I couldn’t be happier that we’ll get to delve deeper into the world of crime comedy-drama created by Guy Ritchie.

Netflix has officially greenlit another installment of one of this year’s most well-received series. The world of Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen will continue in season 2, as it was first reported by Variety that the streaming platform has renewed the British crime comedy-drama series for a second round.

After what felt like an eternity, it’s finally here – the news about the show’s continuation, which initially graced our screens in March 2024. Not only have they decided to renew it, but according to Variety, season 2 will comprise another eight episodes and start filming in 2025. Excitingly, Theo James and Kaya Scodelario will once again take on their leading roles, and Daniel Ings will make a comeback as Freddy. As for who else might join the cast, we’ll just have to wait and see!

In April 2024, James talked about the possibility of The Gentlemen coming back for more episodes, mentioning that a second season hadn’t been “really considered.” Later on, he discussed with Deadline the potential for another season and emphasized the importance of having a “powerful narrative” to motivate them to return and give it another go.

It’s clear that interest in viewings and ratings wasn’t a concern for The Gentlemen, as evidenced by its strong performance on Netflix. In just four days of streaming, it amassed an astonishing 1.21 billion minutes watched. The series made a powerful entrance with 12.2 million views in its premiere and soared to 20.1 million views within the second week. Remarkably, it held the top spot on Netflix for its third week.

In the series, James portrays Eddie Horniman, who acquires both the title of Duke of Halstead and a vast countryside manor through inheritance. However, contrary to the opulence suggested by this position, Eddie’s role is far from lavish. As he uncovers more about his family’s business, he forms an alliance with Susie Glass (Scodelario), the heiress of a drug empire. Together, they delve into the realm of criminal activities, making them literal partners in crime.

The initial season garnered favorable reviews from both critics and audiences, boasting a 74% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an impressive 87% audience score. Given the show’s remarkable viewership and fan adoration, it was more a question of when rather than if we would see season 2. Although season 1 received an Emmy nomination for stunt coordination, James missed out on recognition for his performance. However, with season 2 on the horizon, there’s hope to correct that oversight.

Among the numerous Netflix shows that have recently been renewed, “The Gentlemen” is one such title. Notably, Netflix has also secured season 2 of the popular British drama series, “Supacell“, and announced a third and final season for the global sensation, “Squid Game“, before the second season’s debut in December. Fortunately for fans, they can now rest assured that the renewal or cancellation decision for this particular show is no longer a concern.
