The first season of AMC's most underrated period horrors is heading to Netflix

As a hardcore gamer and horror enthusiast with a soft spot for period dramas, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about the upcoming addition to Netflix’s lineup – The Terror’s first season. If you, too, are enamored with chilling tales set against historical backdrops, mark your calendars for August 19th!

For horror and period drama enthusiasts: Don’t miss the upcoming Netflix series debuting in August. “The Terror” Season 1, originally from AMC, is definitely worth checking out.

I’m a big fan of “The Terror,” the anthology horror series. The second season, which won’t be released on Netflix simultaneously, takes place in a different time period with an entirely new cast. Don’t worry if you’re not able to watch it right away – even though it’s definitely worth checking out!

In the initial installation, Tobias Menzies from “Outlander” joins a remarkable ensemble of actors. Though inspired by real-life occurrences, this production introduces a chilling supernatural horror aspect.

When does The Terror Season 1 come to Netflix?

I’m thrilled to share that starting on Monday, August 19th, I’ll be able to binge-watch my favorite series on Netflix! They made the exciting announcement via their X feed.

As a long-time fan of this particular show, I can understand that some viewers might be disappointed that the second season will only be available on AMC+ for now. However, I believe it’s essential to keep in mind that we’re only at the beginning of this series. The first season has laid the groundwork for what’s to come, and as someone who has followed the development of many shows throughout the years, I know that exclusivity deals are not uncommon.

What is The Terror about?

The first season is a work of fiction based on the true story of Captain Sir John Franklin’s Arctic expedition, which went missing between 1845 and 1848. The show offers some unexplained, supernatural elements to explain what happened during this historical mystery, as the true answers remain uncertain.

Franklin led two advanced vessels, the “HMS Erebus” and the “HMS Terror.” Instead of merely verifying the existence of the northwest Arctic passage, their mission was to explore and prove its feasibility as a navigable route.

Despite being trapped in the icy waters, the two ships need to cooperate to endure the harsh cold. Sadly, their predicament isn’t just about the freezing temperatures. Some ominous presence lurks in the ocean, and it could be something otherworldly.

The Terror Season 1 cast

Tobias Menzies portrays the role of Commander James Fitzjames, HMS Erebus’s second-in-command. An impressive ensemble graces the show, with several familiar faces among them.

As a devoted fan, I’d describe it like this: I was utterly captivated by Jared Harris’ portrayal of Captain Francis Crozier. His strong presence and determination really brought the character to life. Paul Ready, as Assistant Surgeon Harry Goodsir, added an essential layer of tension and intrigue with his skillful acting. Ian Hart masterfully played the role of Sailing Master Thomas Blanky, adding depth and complexity to the crew. Ciarán Hinds’ portrayal of Captain Sir John Franklin was both authoritative and enigmatic, leaving me on the edge of my seat. Lastly, Nive Nielsen breathed life into the mysterious character of Lady Silence with her captivating performance.

The Terror Season 1 is coming to Netflix on Monday, Aug. 19.
