The First Descendant hits 10 million unique players in its first week, blowing away all expectations

As a huge fan of The First Descendant, I’m absolutely thrilled to see how well this game has taken off in just two short weeks. Reaching 10 million players within the first week is an impressive feat, and it’s clear that Nexon has created something truly special with this looter shooter.

The newest entry in the looter shooter genre, The First Descendant, has made its debut with a strong following, drawing influence from games such as Destiny 2 and Warframe. Despite some initial criticism, it has achieved remarkable success and boasts a substantial player base just one week after launch.

Two weeks have passed since The First Descendant’s debut on June 30th, and the game continues to draw a substantial audience. Its peak concurrent player count on Steam reached an impressive 201,888, only 63,000 shy of its all-time high. Nexon can take heart in these figures, suggesting that The First Descendant’s future could be robust as long as the developers consistently introduce new content.

As of my current writing, The First Descendant has managed to secure the seventh spot among the most-played games on Steam. Surprisingly, it surpasses popular titles like GTA 5, Destiny 2, Warframe, and Final Fantasy XIV. However, its position is being challenged by the newly released Once Human and powerhouses such as Elden Ring. Even the Banana game continues to retain a substantial player base. Frankly, I had assumed that the meme surrounding this game would have faded away by now.

Although The First Descendant has achieved notable success, it continues to garner only a Mixed rating on Steam, with approximately 53% of the reviews expressing satisfaction. However, this assessment is not universally accepted by all players, as some argue that the game’s criticisms, particularly regarding monetization, are unwarranted and it should receive a better rating.
