The First Descendant fans beg Nexon to change “incredibly greedy” system

As a long-time gamer who’s seen more than a few paint systems, I must say that The First Descendant’s current one is giving me a headache that’s worse than the boss fights in Dark Souls! It’s like Nexon took all the worst aspects of other games’ paint systems and rolled them into one big, frustrating mess.

Ever since its debut a month ago, The First Descendant has rapidly emerged as the go-to free-to-play spectacle for numerous gamers. Players find TFD thrilling, and they’re eagerly anticipating the launch of Season 1, which is just around the corner. Despite the general acclaim for the game and its creators, a significant number of players have expressed a desire for Nexon to revise an “extremely demanding” system that isn’t particularly player-friendly and falls short in comparison to games like Warframe.

As a longtime fan of action-packed, story-driven video games, I am genuinely excited about the upcoming release of “The First Descendant Season 1” on August 29th. Having closely followed the development of this game, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the revelation of Hailey’s abilities, and Nexon has been skillfully teasing us with tantalizing glimpses.

We’re thrilled beyond words for Season 1’s arrival, given the array of enticing content on tap, such as Hailey’s introduction, new weaponry, a fresh Colossus, and the premier of Ultimate Freyna. However, while these elements are truly captivating, there’s also a strong desire among players for Nexon to revamp the paint system.

The First Descendant fans want Nexon to change paint system

The user continues to explain, “I’m fine with Nexon increasing the cost of paints if they are endlessly reusable across all items. I’d happily spend $1-2 for a versatile paint, but spending $0.50 on a single helmet paint that doesn’t even look as good as its price tag is preposterous.”

Paint system has to be changed, it should be very high priority.

In the responses, numerous users concur with the OP’s viewpoint that the TFD paint system is deemed “junk” by many. One commenter states, “Paints should be unlocked just once. Full stop. Not per character, but globally.” Another user points out several reasons as to why they find it “the most atrocious paint system I have ever encountered”:

  • Very limited and poorly thought out palette.
  • One time use colors.
  • Colors that look one way on the outfit screen and completely different in the actual game.
  • Each color has to be purchased individually for an extreme price.
  • No purchasable color palette sets.
  • Some parts of the outfits can’t be colored such as the energy tubes, wires, cylinders, mask glass etc.
  • Can’t recolor descendant special ability energy (for example bunny’s energy is stuck on blue with slight yellow accents).
  • Armors with certain patterns (Freyna’s snake leather skin jacket, Bunny’s kitty jacket) get erased/removed when colored.
  • No way to recolor yet maintain outfit patterns.
  • Can’t recolor accessories.
  • Mask glass can’t be recolored (Bunny kitty helmet glass is stuck on red).
  • The armor is not divided into enough sections to color, so you are stuck recoloring large chunks of the outfit even though you want to recolor only parts of it.
  • Some parts of the outfit should be recolor-able but are not (palm trees in tropical beach outfit (men).

It seems unlikely that the paint system will be altered any time in the near future, as Nexon hasn’t yet addressed this matter publicly. However, they have demonstrated a responsive approach to community input and game updates, so there’s hope that an improvement to the paint system might occur down the line.
