The Finals fans bemoan “murdered gadget” in newest update

As a seasoned player of The Finals, I must say that the latest update from Embark has been quite a rollercoaster ride. On one hand, it’s refreshing to see some balance changes and fixes after a series of rather lean updates. On the other hand, the significant nerf to the Dome Shield has left me, and many others in the community, feeling a bit deflated.

In a recent update for The Finals, Embark has rolled out some improvements. After several minor updates, this one brings balance adjustments and fixes that players have been eagerly awaiting. However, some enthusiasts of The Finals are expressing disappointment over what they refer to as a “gadget that’s been significantly weakened”.

1. Feel free to review the details of update 3.10.0, which encompasses all the adjustments, improvements, and bug fixes derived from Embark. Moreover, during Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live, the developer unveiled playtest opportunities for Arc Raiders, their exciting new free-to-play multiplayer shooter with a captivating appearance.

We’re eagerly looking forward to trying out Arc Raiders when it comes to playtests this year, but for now, we’re quite satisfied just enjoying The Finals. Embark has recently rolled out its largest update in several weeks, and as always with balance adjustments, there’s a bit of disagreement about it.

The Finals update nerfs Dome Shield

In the latest update 3.10.0 for The Finals, the developers at Embark have noticeably weakened the Dome Shield. Here’s a breakdown of the changes to the Dome Shield, along with the reasoning behind them from the developers:

  • Decreased duration from 12s to 5.5s
    • Dev Note: The Dome Shield was always intended as temporary protection that would synergize well with supportive actions. Over time, its main use case has been as a ‘mobile fortress’ used to steal objectives. We want teams to have to secure the area first in order to steal an objective. To encourage this intended design, we’ve adjusted the Dome Shield’s duration.

In response to the changes detailed in Reddit’s patch notes, many enthusiasts are expressing their displeasure over the significant reduction in effectiveness of the Dome Shield. One comment reads, “A bubble shield with a duration of only 5.5 seconds? It has eliminated the usefulness of the gadget. I can’t fathom what kind of ‘supportive actions’ they are aiming for with this adjustment”.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, the recent update really took a bite out of the Dome Shield. It’s like they replaced it with barricades! In today’s fast-paced gaming environment, the time it takes to deploy the Dome Shield has made it almost useless. I can’t imagine any scenario where I’d want to use it over something more beneficial.

Although some players are disappointed with the significant reduction in power for the Dome Shield, most seem to appreciate the rest of the update. Fans express gratitude for the toning down of throwing knives and the reduced maximum range on the Winch Claw. It’s unfortunate that the Dome Shield has been significantly weakened, but there’s hope for improvements in the future.
