A remake of The Faculty is officially in the works.
1998 saw the debut of “The Faculty,” a chilling science fiction horror movie helmed by director Robert Rodriguez and scripted by Kevin Williamson, best known for Scream. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Jordana Brewster, Josh Hartnett, Robert Patrick, Elijah Wood, among others.
As confirmed by Variety, a reboot of The Faculty is now underway at Miramax. Rodriguez is set to return as producer for the upcoming movie.
Who is writing the remake of The Faculty?
Drew Hancock is currently scripting the updated version of The Faculty. Previously, Hancock both wrote and directed the horror movie Companion, featuring Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher, which will be shown in U.S. cinemas this weekend, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
BoulderLight Productions, known for their work on shows like “Anna Kendrick’s Woman of the Hour,” “Zach Cregger’s Barbarian,” and others, is taking on the production of the upcoming remake.
Apart from those already mentioned, The Faculty’s original lineup includes Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, Shawn Hatosy, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Piper Laurie, Chris McDonald, Bebe Neuwirth, and Jon Stewart as well.
At Harrington High School, the principal and her group of teachers have always seemed a bit peculiar, but they’ve become increasingly strange lately, acting as if they’re from another world.” The plot goes on to describe how these faculty members are being controlled by extraterrestrial parasites, attempting to infect students one at a time. A group consisting of cheerleader Delilah (Brewster), football player Stan (Hatosy), drug dealer Zeke (Hartnett) and the new student Marybeth (Harris), along with other classmates, band together in an effort to resist these invaders.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the cinematic genius that is Robert Rodriguez! From crafting the epic Spy Kids: Armageddon in 2023, to steering episodes of The Book of Boba Fett within the Star Wars universe, his directorial prowess knows no bounds. But let’s take a trip down memory lane, shall we? His filmography spans decades, beginning with the iconic El Mariachi in 1992, followed by Desperado and From Dusk till Dawn in ’95 and ’96 respectively. The Spy Kids franchise saw him at his best, with installments in 2001, 2002, 2003, and even a 3D adventure! Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, Planet Terror, Machete, Alita: Battle Angel, and many more – each one a testament to his unparalleled storytelling ability.
The remake of “The Faculty” hasn’t been given a launch date just yet, but you can enjoy the original film right now on MGM+ and Pluto TV.
