The Equalizer starring Queen Latifah lands on Netflix in December 2024

As a seasoned gamer of both the small and big screen, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of diving into yet another captivating series. The Equalizer, with its enigmatic protagonist Robyn McCall, played by the multi-talented Queen Latifah, has been an elusive gem for those of us who haven’t had access to Paramount+.

Despite the year drawing to a close, Netflix continues to move at full speed, offering an array of fresh content for our viewing pleasure. In addition to their own original productions scheduled before 2025, they have a couple more surprises up their sleeve – acquisitions. Starting December 2024, another popular CBS procedural series will join Netflix’s lineup.

As per the latest update from What’s on Netflix, “The Equalizer” seasons 1-3 are set to debut on Netflix in the U.S. starting from December 16th. This series, starring Queen Latifah, has been accessible only on Paramount+ since its 2021 premiere on CBS. However, with a new deal, Netflix viewers can expect a larger fan base for this show.

The crime-solving TV series, consistently maintaining high viewership throughout its broadcast, is among the top-rated programs on television. At present, The Equalizer is playing out its fifth season on CBS. As of now, only three seasons can be streamed on Netflix, but given the pattern seen with previous CBS shows on Netflix (like S.W.A.T., NCIS, Young Sheldon), additional seasons might become accessible soon.

What is The Equalizer series about?

In the spirit of the 1980s CBS spy thriller series and the film series featuring Denzel Washington, The Equalizer features Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall. Formerly a CIA operative, McCall now acts as an unofficial avenger alongside her team, assisting individuals with no other options to obtain the justice they’ve been denied. Her abilities make her a force to be reckoned with.

Beyond assisting others, I too find myself in a similar situation as McCall, single-handedly raising my teenage daughter. Yet, there’s an underlying quest for “personal growth” that resonates with me deeply. As you may have gathered from various series descriptions, McCall is enigmatic, and her backstory only adds to the intrigue, inviting viewers to unravel the mysteries along with us as we delve into the action-packed tales of our team helping those in need.

The Equalizer cast (and why Chris Noth left the show)

Without a doubt, the renowned Academy Award-nominee and Emmy Award winner Queen Latifah takes center stage in the cast. Notable supporting actors like Tory Kittles and Adam Goldberg also join the series. With only one notable exception, the core cast has stayed consistent throughout the series’ run.

Here’s The Equalizer’s main cast:

  • Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall
  • Tory Kittles as Marcus Dante
  • Adam Goldberg as Harry Keshegian
  • Liza Lapira as Melody “Mel” Bayani
  • Laya DeLeon Hayes as Delilah
  • Lorraine Toussaint as Viola “Aunt Vi” Marsette
  • Chris Noth as William Bishop

Following the second season, Chris Noth was dismissed from the show due to multiple sexual misconduct accusations against him. Previously recognized for his roles in “Sex and the City” and “The Good Wife,” Noth had been a central character during the initial two seasons of “The Equalizer.” Unfortunately, his character William Bishop met an untimely end midway through season 2, as he was written off when his plane crashed.

If you’ve never seen “The Equalizer” series before, you get an opportunity to marathon-watch 46 episodes starting from Dec. 16 on Netflix. On the other hand, if you’re already a fan, you can re-experience all the thrilling moments from season 4, along with the fresh episodes of season 5, which are currently only available on Paramount+. Fingers crossed they might make their way to Netflix eventually (or perhaps not).
