The Equalizer is looking at a spin-off (and will introduce the characters in season 5)

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the world of crime-fighting and espionage games, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement when it comes to the potential spin-off of “The Equalizer”. The show has always been a captivating blend of action, drama, and mystery that resonates with my gaming soul.

It looks like The Equalizer may be getting a spin-off and we could meet the characters soon!

The Equalizer has undergone multiple transformations. It first emerged as a CBS series in 1985, featuring Edward Woodward portraying Robert McCall, a former intelligence officer with a cryptic background who offers his services to aid the downtrodden. Typically, he focused on cases that were overlooked by law enforcement, seeking justice according to his own standards. The show garnered decent popularity, enduring for four seasons.

The property gained widespread recognition following the release of a 2014 film titled “The Equalizer,” starring Denzel Washington as McCall, which turned out to be a massive success. Two sequels, released in 2018 and 2023, added to its fame, making it one of Washington’s most successful franchises.

Queen Latifah is Robyn McCall in The Equalizer on CBS

2021 saw CBS considering a revival, starring the esteemed Queen Latifah portraying Robyn McCall, a character who once worked covertly but now seeks tranquility in New York City. The series introduces elements where Robyn collaborates with her ex-CIA friends Harry (Adam Goldberg) and Mel (Liza Lapira), and she finds herself increasingly engaged in helping people in distress.

The series incorporates various elements, including Robyn’s teenage daughter Delilah and her aunt Vi. Additionally, Marcus Dante (played by Tory Kittles), a detective from the NYPD, initially pursues this enigmatic vigilante but later forms an alliance with Robyn in season 2. Other aspects include Delilah discovering her mother’s past secrets and deciding to assist her, as well as a blossoming romantic relationship between Robyn and Dante.

Currently in its fifth season, the series continues to be a massive success on CBS. In fact, there are strong indications that they’re developing a spin-off, which might debut with an introduction very soon!

What’s happening with The Equalizer spinoff?

By the specified deadline, CBS is considering a spinoff, and they intend to use an upcoming Season 5 episode as a trial run, or what’s often referred to in the industry as a “pilot episode hidden within the main series,” where new characters are introduced to evaluate their suitability for a separate show.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news from Deadline! The upcoming characters remain nameless for now, but they’re shaping up to be quite intriguing. We have a talented younger female martial artist, weapons expert, and criminologist with a mysterious past. This enigmatic figure seeks assistance from McCall, played by the incredible Queen Latifah.

In Episode 16, due to air in the spring of 2025, we’ll meet the new characters. Although CBS hasn’t officially labeled it as a backdoor pilot, it appears they’re hoping these characters will thrive alongside McCall. This is similar to how Fire Country introduced Morena Baccarin as a new sheriff, paving the way for her planned 2025 spin-off named Sheriff Country.

Additionally, there’s a chance that CBS might consider creating a spin-off for The Equalizer if they decide to conclude the series after Season 5. Despite its ongoing popularity, the high production costs, particularly for cast salaries, can be challenging even as CBS aims to keep it running. A spin-off could offer a viable solution to carry on the show’s legacy.

The process of selecting actors is currently ongoing, as there’s uncertainty whether the main role in this upcoming show will go to an experienced TV actor or a newcomer. Regardless, it appears that The Equalizer could be added to CBS’s collection of crime-focused series, bringing more action-packed episodes to viewers.

The Equalizer Season 5 airs Sundays at 9/8c on CBS.
