The Electric State starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt premieres in 2025

After years of binge-watching Netflix originals and being captivated by Millie Bobby Brown’s exceptional performances in shows like Stranger Things and Enola Holmes, I can confidently say that I am beyond excited for her upcoming sci-fi adventure movie The Electric State. The Russo Brothers, the genius minds behind some of Marvel’s finest cinematic creations, are at the helm of this project, and with Chris Pratt joining the cast as well, it promises to be a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions.

Following her success on Netflix with shows like “Stranger Things,” “Enola Holmes,” and its sequel, as well as “Damsel,” Millie Bobby Brown is set to make a strong return to the streaming platform. Not only will the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” debut sometime in 2025, but the talented actress will also lead another Netflix original blockbuster – an upcoming sci-fi adventure film titled “The Electric State“.

According to the graphic novel titled “The Electric State,” penned by Simon Stålenhag, this upcoming project hails from the creative minds of directors Anthony and Joe Russo, along with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. This talented quartet previously collaborated on the blockbuster hits “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” These films generated earnings exceeding $2 billion in box offices across the globe each.

Despite initial plans for “The Electric State” to premiere in 2024, it looks like the film will actually be streaming on Netflix a year later, in 2025. As reported by Deadline, there’s a strong possibility that it may debut as early as March, making it a significant spring release. Above all, fans of the Russo Brothers and Millie Bobby Brown are eagerly awaiting any new information about the movie. Here’s what we know so far!

Synopsis

Stepping into the world of Stålenhag’s graphic novel, I find myself immersed in the breathtaking visuals brought forth by the masterful directors from the MCU, transforming the silver screen into a futuristic landscape that feels eerily real. In this adaptation, titled The Electric State, we journey back to the ’90s, but not the ’90s I remember. This alternate decade is filled with surprises and mysteries yet to uncover. As an orphaned teenager named Michelle, I find myself teaming up with a smuggler and some robots on a quest to locate my long-lost brother. The road ahead is uncertain, but the adventure promises twists and turns as we venture into uncharted territories.

Take a closer look at the full synopsis via Netflix’s press release:

The Electric State is a spectacular adventure from the directors of Avengers: Endgame set in an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Millie Bobby Brown stars as Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising. Everything Michelle thinks she knows about the world is upended one night when she’s visited by Cosmo, a sweet, mysterious robot who appears to be controlled by Christopher — Michelle’s genius younger brother whom she thought was dead. Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost, Michelle sets out across the American southwest with Cosmo, and soon finds herself reluctantly joining forces with Keats (Chris Prat), a low-rent smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie). As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner in the desert where robots now exist on their own, Keats and Michelle find a strange, colorful group of new animatronic allies — and begin to learn that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are more sinister than they ever expected.

The film is known to incorporate comedic aspects, distinguishing it from other popular sci-fi titles like “Atlas” on Netflix, which also showcases sentient robots. The pairing of Brown and Chris Pratt promises an unconventional yet impressive performance, given their knack for comedy, drama, and excelling in blockbuster sci-fi productions.
