The Elder Scrolls Online celebrates its 10th anniversary a year late by selling off 2,000 pieces of its servers

Video games have historically been casual about numbers. For years, franchises such as Final Fantasy and Unreal Tournament have boldly disregarded the essential principles of numbering sequels, not to mention the idea that video games often employ mathematics in artistic expression. However, they’ve recently begun to manipulate anniversary concepts as well, which I find unacceptable.

Nightdive Studios kickstarted this trend by revealing their 25th anniversary remaster of System Shock 2, which will be released 26 years after its initial launch. Conversely, Bethesda is now offering fragments of The Elder Scrolls Online‘s servers to commemorate the game’s 10th anniversary that took place last April. However, it seems a stretch to celebrate a birthday for an entire year, even for a five-year-old!

This version attempts to maintain the original meaning while providing a more accessible reading experience with simpler sentence structures and a conversational tone.

Despite the recent announcement, Bethesda presses on with the 10-year anniversary server memento for The Elder Scrolls Online. As detailed on their website, this keepsake is intended for players seeking a significant token to celebrate over a decade of shared adventures. Specifically, it offers an authentic physical artifact from The Elder Scrolls Online’s history that they can own. (Note: one year represents the time period being celebrated.)

This ‘item’ you’re referring to is actually an old RAM stick taken from one of the server units used in The Elder Scrolls Online. It won’t be delivered to you as quickly as a regular package. Instead, it comes framed with a polished zinc alloy plaque embossed with ESO’s ouroboros symbol and the statement “10 Years”. The entire set retails for $110. I’d personally prefer to use that money on some new RAM sticks for my aging computer. However, if you’re a devoted fan of The Elder Scrolls Online, I can understand the attraction.

If you find this intriguing, you can now pre-order the memento, which is set to be delivered in July. It seems that only 2,000 of these items will be produced. Each one includes a certificate of authenticity and a sequentially numbered holographic tag.

Bethesda isn’t just marking 11 years of The Elder Scrolls Online with one celebration; instead, they’re transitioning to a seasonal format to introduce a fresh narrative titled Seasons of the Worm Cult. As revealed earlier this month by game director Rich Lambert to Harvey, this new storyline serves as a sequel to the original game’s main plot and is culmination of ten years of development work.
