When FromSoftware revealed they’re releasing a new game exclusively on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, it piqued my interest, along with that of countless other enthusiasts. What made it even more intriguing was the resemblance to Bloodborne that this game seems to have, but the real clincher was when they disclosed that it would only be available on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Amongst the unveilings during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct showcase, Duskbloods wasn’t my top pick, but it could potentially be the most impactful one. With FromSoftware releasing their upcoming game exclusively on Nintendo’s forthcoming platform, it’s shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited console launches ever. This collaboration seems tailor-made and could certainly boost Nintendo’s appeal among fence-sitters prior to the Switch 2’s launch.
Setting the table before the next hunt
As of now, Bloodborne, released in 2015, remains exclusive to the PlayStation 4. Despite being a fan favorite and one of FromSoftware’s most acclaimed titles, it runs at 30 frames per second and visually, it’s beginning to look a bit dated compared to their more recent works. Fans have long hoped for Bloodborne to be released on other platforms like PC, PS5, and Xbox One. However, Sony has yet to grant this request, possibly because Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game’s creator, feels that Bloodborne is a cherished title and would want to be involved if there were plans for its return, as suggested by Shuhei Yoshida, former head of PlayStation Indies, on the Kinda Funny Gamescast. It appears that Bloodborne will continue to be confined within the PlayStation 4 library.
Moving on swiftly, we’ve reached the day of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct showcase. A wealth of information was unveiled, including the Switch 2’s price and launch date. Yet, it was one particular game that instantly grabbed the interest of millions – a title with gothic settings, grave warriors, eerie symbolism, and supernatural vampire abilities. Of course, this intriguing game is The Duskbloods, developed by FromSoftware, and set to be released exclusively for the Switch 2 in the year 2026.
It’s challenging to envision a more effective duo that Nintendo could have included in their Direct than hinting at an immediate release of Call of Duty or Doom: The Dark Ages on their platform, which would be a significant draw for many gamers. A game from FromSoftware is associated with high anticipation and it certainly appeals to the hearts (and wallets) of numerous players. Nintendo has been tantalizing them with the prospect of something they’ve longed for years. Now, it seems as if this desired title will serve as a tantalizing carrot leading toward the Switch 2.
A union of extraordinary power
I’m not particularly thrilled that The Duskbloods are exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. This means PC gamers will likely have a long wait for a release, possibly well after the initial 2026 launch date. It’s unfortunate for the players, but it’s hard to ignore the potential gold mine Nintendo has here. FromSoftware games have been incredibly successful with each new release. By 2023, the original Bloodborne had sold over 7.6 million copies, as reported by Game World Observer. Dark Souls 3 had sold over 10 million by 2020, just four years after its launch in 2016, according to PCGamesN. Elden Ring had already sold over 20 million copies by the time Shadow of the Erdtree was announced and has continued to sell millions more since. Even a less popular game like Armored Core 6 managed to sell 3 million units within a year of its 2023 release, according to Forbes.
As a die-hard fan of FromSoftware, I can tell you this: For years, they’ve been dishing out one masterpiece after another, and their dedicated fans have always shown up in droves. Now, when they announced a new game that looks like it could be a revisit to an old favorite, but only on the Nintendo Switch, well, let me tell you, I’ve seen the excitement today.
This is a win for Nintendo, no doubt about it. With millions of potential players who were on the fence about the Switch 2 (and let’s face it, the price isn’t exactly budget-friendly), they now have a tough choice to make next year. And guess what? FromSoftware fans are already discussing how to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch 2 by 2026. It’s a no-brainer for many of us – we’ll follow FromSoftware wherever they go, and that means the Switch 2 is looking more attractive than ever.

Absolutely, there’s still plenty left to reveal about this game, with both Nintendo and FromSoftware holding back some exciting details until its release next year. As per Nintendo, The Duskbloods is designed as a multiplayer game, specifically a Player vs Player vs Environment (PvPvE) experience that supports up to 8 players. At the moment, the only information we have is that we take on the role of the “Bloodsworn,” characters who possess extraordinary strength derived from their unique blood. They hunt for a coveted prize called the “First Blood.” In many ways, it seems reminiscent of FromSoftware’s upcoming multiplayer-focused fantasy game, Elden Ring: Nightreign.
To fully grasp the gameplay style of Duskbloods, we require more in-depth demonstrations beyond the initial trailer. The sneak peek hinted at vampiric traits such as draining victims and transforming them into a potent mist for consumption. Additionally, it showcased mountain villages, gothic cities with towering spires, and mystical subterranean caverns to explore. It seems firearms and steampunk weaponry will be featured, including a metal jetpack suit. However, questions remain about whether it will have a narrative, resemble Nightreign’s class system, or consist entirely of multiplayer segments. Furthermore, the degree of similarity to Bloodborne and its unique elements are yet to be determined. With FromSoftware having over a year to provide clarification, we are optimistic they will address these inquiries satisfactorily.
The First Blood beckons
Essentially, a significant number of FromSoftware enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating their next release, which could potentially become another blockbuster hit over the coming year. If this proves to be the case, it would bolster the argument for the release of a Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, as fans clamor for the opportunity to play FromSoftware’s exclusive titles on the platform. However, it’s important to note that the success of the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn’t solely rely on Duskbloods; the console already boasts a strong lineup with games like Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World. Yet, the excitement surrounding Duskbloods has certainly added fuel to the anticipation for the Switch 2, making its potential launch even more highly anticipated. We’ll be keeping a close eye on developments regarding The Duskbloods and will share updates as they become available.
The new Nintendo Switch, named Switch 2, is scheduled to hit the shelves on June 5, 2025. Meanwhile, the game titled The Duskbloods will be available solely for the Switch 2 in 2026.
