The doctor is in! Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 cast update may point to a major storyline for Elias Voit

As a long-time fan of Criminal Minds, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as season 3 begins to unfold. The casting of Aimee Garcia as Dr. Julia Ochoa promises a fresh perspective to the series, especially given her background in neuropsychiatry.

For “Criminal Minds: Evolution” season 3, production is just getting started, but we’ve already got some exciting casting updates! These new faces won’t be part of the main team, but they have made a significant impact on the BAU during the recent seasons.

Aimee Garcia, known to some from the TV show “Lucifer”, is set to appear in a recurring role on Paramount+ as Dr. Julia Ochoa. According to Deadline, her character is a neuropsychiatrist who will take on the case of a prominent patient suffering from brain trauma caused by an injury.

Based on the developments at the close of Season 2, there’s a strong chance she will assist Elias Voit (played by Zach Gilford). This is because, as fans might remember, Voit suffered severe beating upon entering the general population in the prison where he was serving his term.

Despite his previous isolation, Voit expressed a desire to join the general prison population. The BAU team, engrossed in solving the Gold Star case, paid little heed to this request. In the last scene of season 2, however, an unexpected incident occurred: Voit was attacked while doing laundry.

Though confined behind bars under his original name, he managed to come to light in some way. Whether he orchestrated this event is uncertain, but given his desire for freedom, it wouldn’t be shocking. He’s never hidden his wish to leave prison, and a beating could significantly increase that possibility.

This is where Dr. Ochoa comes in, as she will likely be working with him due to his brain injury.

It seems that she may confront Adam Rodriguez’s character, Luke Alvez, regarding their differing methods of handling patients. While Ochoa favors a more compassionate approach, Luke appears to have a different perspective on the matter.

When it comes to Voit, Alvez undeniably feels cautious for reasons beyond just his criminal history. He’s also skillful at psychological manipulation within the team and has consistently managed to outsmart him. Given the speculation that Voit may have orchestrated these events as a calculated move to evade prison, it’s understandable why Alvez would approach him with more vigilance than the doctor might.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but ponder if there might be a hint of romantic feelings brewing between Alez and Ochoa. Although the narrative doesn’t explicitly indicate this, their palpable tension and contrasting perspectives on patient care could ignite a spark that transcends professional boundaries.

During a chat with TVLine, the show’s producer Erica Messer hinted at Voit’s connections, subtly suggesting that even though Gold Star has ended, his network is still active and could potentially lead to the BAU team investigating individuals linked to it in future episodes.

If true, would this imply they can avoid being surprised by Voit in future encounters? The outcome hinges on the extent of his head injury if he’s part of this storyline.
