The Crown Could Get Netflix Spin-off Series, Says Producer

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in historical dramas and binge-watched The Crown multiple times, I must say, the prospect of spin-offs is music to my ears! The richness of the storyline and the meticulous attention to detail make it an ideal candidate for further exploration.

Andy Harries, an executive producer for “The Crown,” has hinted that there might be spin-off series based on the historical drama’s universe at some point. The highly praised show ended its six-season run on Netflix in 2023, leaving many fans disappointed. Nevertheless, according to Harries’ recent statements, potential new shows set within this fictional world could potentially be released at a later date.

Producer Andy Harries thinks The Crown spin-offs could happen ‘at some point’

During a recent conversation, one of the founders of Left Bank Pictures expressed the possibility of spin-offs for The Crown, given its seemingly endless subject matter.

During an interview on BBC’s The Media Show, Andy Harries discussed potential ways for their acclaimed series to carry on. He also shared his joy about a Netflix agreement that ensures they maintain ownership of The Crown.

“Harries expressed confidence saying, ‘That agreement feels fantastic,’ and went on to mention, ‘It opens up possibilities for future projects related to The Crown at a later stage.'”

Later on, he clarified that there’s potential for additional installments of The Crown without damaging its established reputation or history.

Harries made it clear that the topic is vast and open-ended. He suggested two possibilities: revisiting or continuing. He pointed out that they had completed six seasons, spanning six decades, leaving much unexplored. At some point, he hinted, they might revisit this unfinished story. (Paraphrased from Deadline)

Harries’ remarks mirror the thoughts expressed by series creator Peter Morgan during a conversation last autumn. Earlier, Morgan hinted at the potential future of The Crown, suggesting that a prequel spin-off could effectively continue the show’s storyline. “I do have an idea,” Morgan said, “but I need to attend to some other tasks first. Moreover, it would require specific circumstances to align… If I were to revisit The Crown, it would undoubtedly be to travel back in time.” (In simpler terms, Harries and Morgan are saying that there might be a prequel spin-off of The Crown, but Morgan has other projects to complete first, and the right conditions must come together for him to return to the show.)

Although The Crown’s creative team has hinted at some promising possibilities, Netflix hasn’t formally given the go-ahead for a new series set within the existing world of The Crown yet.
