The Brutalist’s Adrien Brody Breaks Guinness World Record for World’s Longest Oscar Speech

Even though Adrien Brody had promised a short speech, he unexpectedly broke the Guinness World Record for the longest Oscar acceptance speech.

On March 2nd, 2025, Brody received the Academy Award for Best Actor, this being his second win. He had previously won the same award in 2002 for his role in “The Pianist.” This time, he won for his portrayal of László Tóth in “The Brutalist,” a production by A24 and Brady Corbet.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brody’s speech at the Oscars lasted an impressive 5 minutes and 40 seconds, breaking the previous record set by Greer Garson who spoke for 5 minutes and 30 seconds following her win for Mrs. Miniver in 1943.

What did Adrien Brody say during his Oscar speech?

Following the discard of his chewing gum, Brody strode onto the stage in a hurry, acknowledging that they were already signaling him to begin. He then expressed gratitude towards every person who had shown him respect and appreciation.

He remarked, ‘Acting is a delicate vocation.’ It may seem glamorous at times, and indeed it can be, but the insight I’ve gleaned from returning here is invaluable perspective. Regardless of your career stage or achievements, everything can vanish. What makes tonight exceptional is the understanding of this vulnerability and the gratitude for continuing to do work I adore.’

As the tunes started filling the air, I requested my friends to mute the music, explaining that I’ve been here before and was about to wrap things up.

Here I am again, standing up once more to echo the lingering scars of war, discrimination, and oppression – anti-Semitism, racism, and the painful experience of being ‘othered’. I yearn for a world that is healthier, happier, and more accepting. If our past has shown us anything, it’s a stark lesson to never let hatred fester unchallenged.

Afterward, he summed up, “Alright, I’m off now. I adore you all, and I value each of you. Let’s stand up for what’s just. Keep beaming, keep caring for one another. Together, let’s rebuild. Thanks.
