The Boys: What Are Billy Butcher’s Powers? Is He Stronger Than Homelander?

As a long-time fan of The Boys and someone who has followed the series closely since its inception, I must admit that the latest revelation about Billy Butcher’s powers left me utterly speechless. In season 4 episode 8, we finally got a glimpse of what makes this troubled man so dangerous.

The final episode of “The Boys” Season 4 has been released, leaving fans curious about the capabilities of Billy Butcher. There’s been much speculation regarding his power level compared to Homelander. Previously in Season 4, it was suggested that Butcher possessed superpowers due to his Compound V usage. However, the show didn’t elaborate on this detail earlier. In Episode 8, as the Boys and Victoria were about to reach an understanding, Butcher suddenly emerged, revealing his powers by tearing Victoria in half before any deal could be made.

In The Boys Season 4 Episode 8, I’ll share essential information about Billy Butcher’s abilities and the comparison of his power level with Homelander.

What are Billy Butcher’s powers in The Boys Season 4 Episode 8?

Billy Butcher is believed to possess typical Supes’ abilities, such as extraordinary strength, remarkable speed, and robust constitution. While his invulnerability has been verified, his other powers are yet to be proven. During an encounter, Victoria, a Secret Service agent, was killed while trying to protect her, and Billy was shot several times in the process. Remarkably, the gunshots failed to harm him.

Butcher possesses chest tendrils capable of tearing apart a robust Super like Victoria effortlessly. In the past, these tendrils emerged when Butcher fainted during his battle against Ezekiel. Yet, he couldn’t command his abilities then, but it appears that control has since been gained following Ryan’s killing of Grace Mallory.

An alternate explanation is that Butcher may have relinquished control over Ryan to the Joe Kessler character living inside his mind. The seemingly real hallucinations of Kessler and Becca could be the workings of a sentient brain tumor acting as a kind of strange ability.

Has Butcher become more powerful than Homelander in The Boys?

It’s clear that Billy Butcher has a great deal of strength, but it’s yet to be determined if he can outmatch Homelander in terms of power.

I was taken aback by how effortlessly Butcher subdued Victoria during our recent encounter. However, it’s important to mention that he caught her off guard and muffled her mouth and eyes. This tactic probably hindered her from utilizing her formidable abilities against Homelander’s heat vision. Given Victoria’s proven ability to defend herself against Homelander, it’s safe to assume she would have retaliated if she could. Therefore, I believe her inability to harm him is a result of the surprise attack rather than a lack of power.

In the final episode of season 4, Homelander seizes power over the US government. This sets the stage for an inevitable clash between him and the new superpowered Butcher. However, it’s not just the tumor that’s limiting Butcher’s time. In episode 5, a dead rabbit with strange tendrils emerges, hinting at Butcher’s own hidden powers. Eventually, whatever lies within him will surface as well.
