In a recent interview, he discussed his thoughts on the potential role and how he would tackle it. Ackles reminisced about voicing Batman in animated DC productions, the weight of donning the cape, and what conditions might persuade him to join James Gunn’s DC Universe.
Jensen Ackles says ‘it would be hard’ to make Batman unique
During an interview with Collider in June 2025, Jensen Ackles addressed the rumors of him joining James Gunn’s DC Universe.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but ponder about the prospect when asked. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure. You see, I’ve lent my voice to Batman in various DC animated films such as The Long Halloween and Justice League: Warworld, but I must admit, it would be quite a challenge to create a Batman that stands out from the rest. I mean, with so many remarkable performances already out there, it’s tough to imagine carving out something truly unique.
Ackles made clear that he’d largely depend on the collective imagination of the creative crew. “I imagine I’ll need to draw a lot of support from Gunn, the director, and the writers,” he explained, “and find motivation in the script.
Regardless of the apprehension, he admitted the significance of assuming such a renowned position. “It’s like not wanting to drop the ball – that’s one I’d be terrified to hold. Yet, I’d also feel proud. It would be quite an honorable accomplishment.
Danneel Ackles hasn’t explicitly discussed negotiations with DC Studios or James Gunn, but he didn’t rule out the possibility. In response to fan speculation about his potential role as Batman, he remarked, “Anyone who gets to don the cape, they have something special.” When informed that fans are hoping for him, Ackles replied, “I’ll join them if given the chance. Just let me know the call sign.
For years now, I’ve been a loyal fan, deeply appreciative of Jared Padalecki’s exceptional acting skills. From his gripping performances in Supernatural, The Boys, and the latest Amazon Prime Video series Countdown, he never fails to captivate me. Furthermore, his vocal contributions to the Batman universe have only strengthened our bond, even though the possibility of seeing him in the DCU is yet to be confirmed.
