The Black Phone 2 Production Begins, Scott Derrickson Shares BTS Photo of Sequel’s Logo

As a die-hard horror fan who grew up on classics like “The Ring” and “Sinister”, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the start of production for “The Black Phone 2“. The original film was a chilling masterpiece that left me sleepless nights, and I can’t wait to see what terrifying twists and turns await us in the sequel.

Production is now underway on The Black Phone 2.

In a more casual and accessible way, “The Black Phone” is a 2021 supernatural horror film that was both directed and co-written by Scott Derrickson (known for ‘Sinister’ and ‘Doctor Strange’). Starring Ethan Hawke as The Grabber, this movie earned approximately $161.4 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of around $16-18 million.

In October 2023, Universal made public that they were working on a follow-up to the film “The Black Phone.” Initially slated for release in cinemas in June 2025, the movie’s premiere was later postponed by approximately four months, moving it from June to October.

Exciting news, folks! I, as a gaming enthusiast, just wanted to share that I’ve learned filming has started for The Black Phone 2. Guess who shared a sneak peek? None other than Derrickson himself! He posted a behind-the-scenes shot on X (you can check it out below), and let me tell you, it’s our first look at the spine-tingling logo for the upcoming horror sequel. Can’t wait to see what terrors await us in this continuation!

What else do we know about The Black Phone 2?

In the sequel to “The Black Phone,” Hawke will once again take on his character’s role. Joining him are Mason Thames portraying Finney, Madeleine McGraw as Gwen, Jeremy Davies as Terrence, and Miguel Mora as Robin. Notably, Demián Bichir has also been cast in this upcoming film.

Once more, C. Robert Cargill and Derrickson have penned the screenplay for “The Black Phone 2”. Currently, specific storyline details are being kept confidential.

Thirteen-year-old Finney Shaw, a timid yet intelligent boy, is kidnapped by a ruthless serial killer and locked in a silent basement. Yelling won’t help much here. However, when an unused phone on the wall starts ringing, Finney realizes that he can hear the voices of the killer’s past victims. Determined to prevent their fate from befalling him, they are determined to intervene.

In U.S. theaters on October 17, 2025, “The Black Phone 2” will be unveiled by Universal Pictures. At present, the original “Black Phone” can be streamed on Starz.
