As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has been a staple in my gaming library since its release ten years ago. The game’s unique blend of action, RPG elements, and a dash of horror has kept me engaged for countless hours.
On November 4th, it’s been ten years since Edmund McMillen (of Team Meat) and Nicalis unveiled The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, a captivating action RPG shooter that delved into bizarre, eerie worlds. Today, Edmund announced that they have big plans to honor this significant anniversary with a new update. One of the main additions will be an online cooperative mode, a feature players haven’t experienced before.
According to McMillen, posted on his X platform (previously known as Twitter), “Isaac online will include a complete cooperative mode online (with progress indicators), together with a significant balance adjustment that mainly enhances items deemed weak or ineffective.
For quite some time, the team behind The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has been developing an update for their online co-op mode. Previously, McMillen hinted at this in a September post. Now, the Nicalis account is suggesting that more details about the upcoming update will be unveiled throughout the month.
Originally conceived in 2012 as a remake of The Binding of Isaac, the game “The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth” encompasses all elements from the original critically acclaimed indie hit, plus an additional expansion, new final chapter and ending, two extra playable characters, and previously cut content. This expanded version also offers local multiplayer mode, a feature that has grown to accommodate up to four players over time.
On Monday, November 18th, an update marking The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth’s ten-year anniversary will roll out, introducing online co-op play. Although Edmund McMillen doesn’t explicitly mention the platforms, it is expected to be available for both PC and console systems. For those yet to purchase the game, a sale on Steam will last for the upcoming week.
