Summary
- Rise introduced powerful Longswords like Big Menacing Scythe and Silver Severer on top of fan favorites like Tigrine Need.
- Phantom Mirage offers versatility and Chameleos Soul ability, topping high-rank builds with high raw damage and affinity.
- Nargacuga’s Darkest Night boasts more raw damage and sharpness, along with high affinity, making it a key weapon for Sunbreak.
The Monster Hunter series is renowned for its wide array of weapons and numerous terrifying (occasionally eerie) creatures to pursue. However, with such a multitude of weapons at hand, it can be challenging to identify the category you’re interested in, let alone finding a particular one amidst the intricate crafting systems.
As a gamer, I must say that one weapon that truly stands out and has been a fan favorite in Monster Hunter Rise is none other than the Longsword. This bad boy shares some similarities with traditional Japanese swords, emphasizing on perfect timing for strikes and swift maneuvers across the battlefield. Unlike the Great Sword, it’s less about sheer power and more about precision and agility. But remember, what works best is always up to your personal playstyle. The Longsword has garnered a lot of love from the community, but ultimately, you should choose the weapon that feels right for you on your hunting journey!

Defender Long Sword

In simpler terms, the ‘grind’ in Monster Hunter refers to the core mechanics where players hunt monstrous creatures, targeting particular body parts for resources, which they then use to improve their equipment and hunting skills.
Upon launching Sunbreak, navigating through a lengthy quest to access the new expansion may seem intimidating. However, don’t worry, as the Defender gear is here to help. This weapon set, without any extra embellishments, is undeniably the strongest in the base game. It might not have any frills, but it will support you effectively until you choose to specialize or reach Master Rank.
15.
Wind Thief Scimitar II

Monster Hunter Rise might seem more welcoming and instructional compared to previous games, but that doesn’t make the vast array of weapon types any less overwhelming when you see them for the first time, as there isn’t much guidance provided on how to navigate through them. Fortunately, one of the superior Longswords you can acquire is the Wind Thief Scimitar II, which can be crafted from one of the initial monsters you’ll hunt.
Modeled after the mighty Izuchi, the Wind Thief Scimitar emphasizes affinity, which in Monster Hunter’s terms, increases your chances of scoring critical hits. Although other early weapons may deal more damage initially, developing proficiency with affinity is a valuable skill for future weapons, as Monster Hunter Rise appreciates high affinity builds greatly.
14.
Hidden Saber I

Progressing logically might lead you to the Concealed Saber. Seasoned players of Rise can vouch that Nargacuga weapons dominate the game’s meta, and justifiably so. While the Concealed Saber isn’t the strongest weapon in the game, it is more than capable of seeing you through the early game’s Low Rank Quests.
The Mysterious Saber once more is a weapon of high compatibility, boasting decent sharpness as well. If you’ve been developing an affinity-focused build, it will effortlessly transition you into more advanced affinity builds and enable you to swiftly slice through Low Rank hunts. After numerous encounters with Nargacuga, it may either become your favorite or most despised monster.
13.
Julienne Blade

Starting your High-Rank experience for the first time, you’ll encounter a significant increase in challenge, along with advanced weapon and armor upgrades as your initial equipment may become outdated. A recommended top-tier item to kickstart your High-Rank adventure is the Julienne Blade.
The Julienne Blade is quite straightforward, lacking any elaborate features or spectacular effects. However, it offers a decent amount of damage for its level and robust blue sharpness to enhance its potency. Paired with the attack boost from the Rampage skill and some protective armor for added elevation, the Julienne Blade will serve as your reliable companion until you ascend to greater levels.
12.
Big Menacing Scythe

One might contend, possibly with validity, that the Large Intimidating Sickle isn’t truly a longsword. In response to this, Rise would advise you not to worry about such distinctions and instruct you to wield the Large Intimidating Sickle like a longsword. Embrace your role as the harbinger of death you’ve always imagined.
To put it simply, this scythe inflicts poison damage, which, on top of its already formidable attacks, can deal a significant additional amount of harm. When combined with armor and charms that amplify poison and critical hits, the weapon becomes quite self-sufficient. Regardless, death is inevitable for even the mightiest of creatures.
11.
Wyvern Blade Maple

The Wyvern Blade Maple is an intriguing addition to the game. It’s got a good punch in raw power, though it’s not the most powerful. By default, it doesn’t have any affinity and its sharpness is just okay, a decent blue. However, where it truly shines is in its excellent elemental damage.
In the game Rise, elemental damage tends to be more effective in certain scenarios, largely depending on specific monsters to maximize its advantages. Interestingly, the fire damage it inflicts is substantial, even when used against monsters not particularly vulnerable to fire. It can still perform well, while dealing devastating blows to those that are weak against it.
10.
Rampage Blade

In the latest update of Rise, there are now Rampage Weapons available. These weapons cover various types and can be customized extensively to suit your needs. What sets them apart from other weapons is that they have multiple rampage skill slots, allowing for a more precise adjustment of your character build. This makes them ideal in a game where there’s no such thing as a “perfect” weapon.
Previously, Rampage weapons might not have delivered the same level of crafted gameplay as some other weapons. However, this latest update has introduced additional skills to enhance customization, making them more versatile. These weapons can be effective for both elemental and raw damage builds, allowing you to choose your preferred armor set. Furthermore, Rampage weapons can be combined with any weapon of the same type, offering a unique fashion option that adds an extra advantage.
9.
Reddnaught Blade

The fearsome Crimson Glow Valstrax is a monster indeed, and rightfully so, given its design inspired by a comet. In an instant, it can swoop down for a surprise divebomb attack, inflicting significant damage. It’s only fitting that this formidable creature’s weapons are equally powerful, particularly when combined with the armor set of Valstrax itself.
The Valstrax armor set offers a distinctive ability: when your health drops below a specific level, it inflicts you with Dragonblight, significantly enhancing your dragon-based attacks and increasing your resistances. This enables you to effortlessly cut through enemies vulnerable to dragon attacks. Moreover, the weapon’s substantial sharpness and white color make it adaptable for various builds, enhancing its raw damage and affinity without the unique set bonus.
8.
Deepest Night

A standout addition to this assortment is anticipated to be the Deepest Night Nargacuga Longsword. Nargacuga weaponry often dominates the highest ranks across different categories. Similar to the Nargacuga monster itself, these weapons focus on rapid, penetrating strikes, which explains their exceptionally high affinity rates.
By its very nature, the bond is immense, with a touch of crispness maintaining your damage potent. Consequently, the optimal areas to maximize this weapon’s potential are in preserving sharpness and enhancing affinity even more. Given its incredible damage, it might even outperform higher raw damage configurations if used skillfully.
7.
Tigrine Need

The Tigrine Longsword caters to a diverse range of users compared to numerous weapons. It offers an effortless, user-friendly experience, making it easy to use and forget about in combat. Despite possessing negative affinity, this is offset by exceptionally high damage, placing it among the top raw damage values for longswords within the game. Unlike most High-Rank builds, the Tigrine Longsword can be utilized without requiring specific equipment or build, ensuring consistent high damage output regardless of circumstances.
In theory, other builds may offer higher damage with precision and skilled play, but Tigrine Need eliminates this requirement. If you team up with a Hunting Horn partner who can counteract this disadvantage and potentially even turn it into an advantage, the weapon’s main drawback becomes insignificant.
6.
Phantom Mirage

In the game, although no single longsword can be labeled as the absolute best, the Phantom Mirage is currently ruling the roost in the upper echelons due to its remarkable adaptability. It boasts high blue sharpness and strong affinity, but what truly sets it apart is its extraordinary raw damage. So exceptional is this sword that there’s no agreement on the ideal build because of its versatility.
As a gamer, I’ve found that Phantom Mirage stands out with its numerous customization slots for personal flair. What sets it apart is the Chameleos Soul ability, which occasionally amplifies one of my stats at random. The twist is, you can aim for a boost in attack or defense instead if you prefer. The versatility it offers makes it more challenging to optimize compared to weapons like Tigrine Need, but its multifaceted build options give it an edge over many others in the game.
5.
Darkest Night

In the original game, Nargacuga was quite the dominant force in many high-level builds, with affinity being the key to mastering it all. Now, you might remember Nargacuga as a formidable adversary. Despite the introduction of numerous new build options in Sunbreak, there’s just something about raw power that makes it unbeatable.
In the latest branch of Nargacuga’s tree, Darkest Night possesses the same high affinity as before, yet boasts greater raw damage and sharpness. You have more flexibility with decorations to potentially raise its affinity beyond 100%, but it becomes excessively powerful at such levels.
4.
Abyssal Flicker

Sunbreak introduces a rich variety of new monsters, each featuring its own armor and weapon progressions, some even boasting unique abilities. Many of these weapons are outstanding, and in certain situations or with practice, could form the basis of powerful builds. For now, Abyssal Flicker stands out as particularly intense.
The weapon named Abyssal Flicker is derived from the Gaismagorm tree, implying it won’t appear until after the narrative concludes. This weapon boasts extremely high damage and sharpness but comes with significant drawbacks such as no customizable slots for general decorations and a -25% affinity reduction. However, if you manage to offset the negative affinity, you will wield a formidable creature under your control.
3.
Wyvern Blade Luna

In this series, Rathalos and Rathian serve as our iconic characters, and even their standard forms can be quite terrifying. However, the gold and silver versions of these monsters are downright chilling! Indeed, they make a fearsome duo that could easily send you flying with a single fiery blast. Given their formidable nature, it’s only fitting that their weapons, particularly those from Gold Rathian, possess such immense power.
As a devoted player, I can’t help but be thrilled about the Wyvern Blade Luna – it’s shaping up to be an exceptionally powerful Longsword in our game! With Qurio augments and additional gear, its base attack soars from 330 to an impressive 390. Add in its 10% affinity, potent poison damage, and a decent amount of white sharpness, and this sword offers versatility and top-notch utility right out of the box!
2.
Devil’s Deal

Initially, in Rise, Magnamalo was the dominant monster with some stylish equipment and unique abilities. However, as new storylines and Sunbreak monsters emerged, Magnamalo’s fearsome reputation waned. Enter the Scorned Magnamalo, a truly terrifying version of the original, along with powerful gear that can be crafted from them.
This Longsword known as the Devil’s Deal has a potent strike of approximately 320 damage and inherently sharp purple quality. Furthermore, it boasts impressive Blast damage, ensuring consistent damage output. Additionally, it offers a reasonable number of decoration slots, enabling you to tailor it better to your unique playing style.
1.
Silver Severer

Initially, Malzeno was a formidable foe when joined with the swift, vampiric menace known as Qurio. However, after the last update, Primordial Malzeno proved to be even more formidable, capable of releasing immense power before it was restrained by Qurio. Interestingly, this increased power also seems to manifest in their equipment.
As a gamer, I’d say this high-end weapon might seem a bit underpowered at first glance, sporting just 310 base damage. But don’t let that fool you! The purple sharpness it boasts significantly increases its cutting edge, and the high Dragon damage ensures I can take down those pesky dragons more efficiently. Moreover, with its impressive three decoration slots, each filled with four notches, I have plenty of room to customize this weapon to my playstyle. To top it all off, when my Blood Rite ability is activated, I’ll recover more HP than usual, making this weapon not just a powerful tool in battle, but also a boon for my survival!
