The Best Early Game Bow Upgrades In Monster Hunter Wilds

In the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll find fourteen different weapons to kickstart your adventure. It’s delightful that players aren’t restricted to a single weapon choice and can test their skills in a training area at the home base. For those just starting out, a bow might be the ideal pick due to its user-friendly nature and extended reach.

As a hunter in Monster Hunter World, I won’t be turning into a sniper pro with a bow like I would in Sniper Elite games, but it’ll certainly offer me some protection. Each weapon, including the bow, comes with an upgrade path, and I should aim to climb these trees as quickly as possible. From elemental enhancements to raw damage power-ups, now is the time to level up!

8. Dosha Fearbringer 1

The Fuzziest Of Bows

  • Associated Monster: Doshaguma
  • Stamina Thief: Infect Monsters With Exhaust By 20%

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Dosha Fearbringer 1 is a craftable starting bow that becomes available after defeating the Doshaguma. This battle will be one of your early challenges since the Doshaguma hits hard and can withstand multiple attacks. One advantage of using this bow is that it boosts both Attack Power and Defense, which is uncommon for weapons in this game. The built-in skill, Stamina Thief, allows you to wear down monsters more quickly if you’re using a special coating on the bow. Exhausted monsters move slower, increasing the chances of them getting trapped or caught in Monster Hunter Wilds.

7. Dragon Perforator 1

No Dragons Required

  • Materials Used: Minerals
  • Tetrad Shot: Increases Bowgun Affinity With Ammo

As a gamer, I’m always on the lookout for my next crafting project, and the Dragon Perforator 1 certainly fits the bill! Unlike other bows that require monster parts, this one uses minerals – specifically, Machalite Ore and Earth Crystal. So instead of focusing solely on monsters, it’s essential to venture out and explore new areas to mine for these materials. You never know what types of ore you might find or the occasional bug or herb too!

Now, here’s an interesting twist – this bow comes with a Tetrad Shot, which is unusual because it’s actually a boost for bowguns in Monster Hunter Wilds, not standard bows. But hey, who am I to complain? More power to my arsenal!

6. Hope Bow 3

From Humble Beginnings

  • Materials Used: Minerals
  • Ballistics: Extends Range
  • Critical Eye: Raises Affinity By 4%

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Hope Bow is the choice for those who select a bow at the outset. The progression for this bow starts with the Hope Bow 2 requiring Iron Ore and advances to Hope Bow 3 which needs Dragonite Ore and Machalite Ore. Although it might not be as thrilling as bows made from monsters, it boasts two built-in skills.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, mastering ballistics significantly increases an arrow’s potency over distance, making it an invaluable skill for archery enthusiasts. On the other hand, Critical Eye boosts affinity, resulting in smoother weapon handling. For bow users, this enhancement translates to quicker drawing of arrows.

5. Hunter’s Bow 2

Bad To The Bone

  • Materials Used: Bones
  • Attack Boost: Attack +3
  • Focus: Fills Ammo/Charge Rate For Bow By 5%

In the game, The Hunter’s Bow 2 is another weapon that players can create using bones as its primary material. To craft the initial version, you’ll need Mystery Bones, and then you can upgrade it with Sturdy Bone and Monster Fluid to enhance it. Essentially, this process allows the bow to evolve.

The Hunter’s Bow 2 comes equipped with two skills: Attack Boost and Focus. The Attack Boost skill will amplify the power of your arrow shots, while the Focus skill can quicken the charging rate of arrows for this bow. However, it’s important to note that the Focus skill functions slightly differently when applied to bowguns.

4. Quematrice Arco 2

Light ‘Em Up

  • Associated Monster: Quematrice
  • Focus Level 2: Fills Ammo/Charge Rate For Bow By 10%
  • Element: Fire

The Quematrice Arco 2 sets the course right for battling monsters, particularly the flame-edged bird known as Quematrice. On the other hand, the Quematrice Arco 1 merely gathers materials from this monster. The Quematrice Arco 2, however, demands a tail piece, Dragonite Ore, and Firestone, along with an upgraded Focus level two, similar to the Hunter’s Bow but more advanced. This bow also carries the essence of fire within it, making it effective against creatures found in the Iceshard Cliffs such as Nerscylla.

3. Rey Perkonis 1

Bring The Thunder

  • Associated Monster: Rey Dau
  • Focus: Fills Ammo/Charge Rate For Bow By 5%
  • Special Ammo Boost: Dragon Piercer, Thousand Dragons, and Tracer Bow Attacks Strengthened
  • Element: Thunder

The Rey Perkonis 1 is another bow, this time modeled after lightning. To obtain it, players must first defeat the formidable wyvern, Rey Dau, and gather parts from its defeated body. Rey Dau is one of the toughest challenges in the game, comparable to iconic monsters like Rathalos from the Monster Hunter series. This bow comes equipped with a Focus ability, but it’s only at level one.

In this version, I tried to maintain the original meaning while using simpler and more conversational language.

In my opinion, I find Special Ammo Boost to be more advantageous as it amplifies the potency of extraordinary bow abilities such as Dragon Piercer, Thousand Dragons, and Tracer. For instance, with the Focus Mode in Monster Hunter Wilds, Tracer attacks home in on vulnerabilities, making them even more effective.

2. Uth Khviluk 1

A High Attack To Douse Flames

  • Associated Monster: Uth Duna
  • Tetrad Shot Level 2: Increases Bowgun Affinity With Ammo And Raises Attack
  • Element: Water

In the initial phases of gameplay, Uth Khviluk 1 boasts the highest attack strength among other items. Players can create it following the defeat of Uth Duna, a massive water serpent. Similar to the Dragon Perforator 1, it possesses the Tetrad Shot at level two. However, this feature may not be beneficial for bow users and is more relevant to enthusiasts of bowguns. The water attribute comes in handy for extinguishing flames emitted by monsters such as the Quematrice.

1. Wild Power Bow 1

Hope You Like Pink

  • Associated Monster: Congalala
  • Special Ammo Boost: Dragon Piercer, Thousand Dragons, and Tracer Bow Attacks Strengthened

In the game “Monster Hunter 2”, you can create the Wild Power Bow 1 using components from a creature called Congalala. The Congalala resembles a mix between a hippo and an ominous monkey, with a stink so potent it seems to dine on Chipotle for every meal. Despite its goofy appearance, adorned by a fluffy pink ball, the Wild Power Bow 1 is armed with Special Ammo Boost, similar to the Rey Perkonis 1 bow. This bow, along with the Rey Perkonis 1, are top-tier early choices for players aiming to master the Wounds system in the game.
