Miramax has officially chosen Timo Tjahjanto, an Indonesian filmmaker, to direct “The Beekeeper 2,” a follow-up to the 2024 action-thriller movie titled “The Beekeeper.” This new movie will see Jason Statham returning as Adam Clay, a character he played in the initial installment. In that movie, Adam was portrayed as a former covert human intelligence operative who was first introduced to us.
Tjahjanto has a history of directing action films, with past works like Headshot (2016), The Night Comes for Us (2018), The Big 4 (2022), and The Shadow Strays (released last year) under his belt. His upcoming project is the Bob Odenkirk movie Nobody 2, a sequel to the 2021 action thriller, marking his debut in a major Hollywood production. Set for release in cinemas on August 15, 2025, this will be his first significant feature film in Hollywood.
When is the production start date window for The Beekeeper 2?
In the autumn of this year, Miramax intends to begin filming The Beekeeper 2, over a year after the initial movie was screened in cinemas. Tjahjanto will direct from a script penned by Kurt Wimmer, and there’s speculation that David Ayer, who directed the 2024 version, could reprise his role as producer. Additionally, it’s been rumored that Miramax is seeking another collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios for the distribution rights of the sequel within the United States.
The initial film featured Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons in the cast. The story revolved around Statham’s character, Adam, who pursued vengeance for the demise of his friend and compassionate landlady, both victims of a large-scale phishing fraud. Since its premiere, it has garnered mostly favorable reviews from both critics and viewers. Currently, it boasts an impressive 92% rating on Popcornmeter at Rotten Tomatoes.
