The Bear season 4 won't be premiering before 2025 like fans hoped

As a dedicated gamer and long-time fan of The Bear, I was thrilled when the show received a record-breaking 23 Emmy nominations on July 17th. However, the excitement was short-lived when it became clear that season 4 wouldn’t be premiering on Hulu any sooner than expected. The anticipation for the next installment of this critically acclaimed dramedy has been a hot topic amongst fans since rumors circulated about filming seasons three and four back-to-back.

On July 17, Emmy nomination announcements, The Bear received an unprecedented 23 nods. However, contrary to the anticipation, no news emerged about an early release of Season 4 on Hulu. This has been a subject of curiosity since rumors surfaced that Seasons 3 and 4 would be shot consecutively.

During a press conference for season 3, a reporter inquired about the show’s production timeline. The following conversation ensued between the series’ leading actors:

Jeremy Allen White: We attempted something similar, yet not quite.
Ayo Edebiri: Yes, a modified form of it, somewhat. But not completely.
Jeremy Allen White: Not completely.
Ayo Edebiri: Is this useful for journalism?
Abby Elliott: You’ll need to determine that.

Previously, it was unclear what people meant when they mentioned that “The Bear” had maintained some level of production during the hiatus between seasons. However, FX CEO John Landgraf has clarified this in an interview with Variety. Filming for season 4 is not completed yet and the show’s return is predicted to be no earlier than 2025.

We couldn’t bring it back sooner because of all of the film projects the actors are on right now. We started a show with a with a team of great actors. Now we have a show with a team of movie stars. They do have to go back for a chunk of production. And we actually haven’t seen all the scripts yet. We’ve seen most of them, but not all of them.

Landgraf was vague about the extent of the fourth season’s remaining filming and the start date for production resumption. However, he speculated that it might return around the same time next year.

We won’t get another installment of “The Bear” before June 2025 at the latest. The FX executive takes great pride in this annual release schedule, which sets it apart in the era of streaming services where most shows take 2-3 years between seasons.

According to Landgraf’s observation, it recaptures the charm of the conventional annual release schedule, allowing fans to anticipate a specific time of the year when their beloved show returns. For supporters of “The Bear,” this delightful experience occurs during summer and specifically in the sixth month. Let’s hope they can enjoy this consistency for the fourth season in a row.

Landgraf was uncertain if season 4 would be the final installment of our dramedy series. However, it’s important to note that this decision isn’t in his hands.

We really don’t know. These decisions are really creative decisions. It was Sterlin Harjo who made a decision that Rez Dogs was a three-season series. And so it’s really Chris [Storer’s] decision on The Bear. It’s about, how much more story does he have to tell? I mean, obviously, I’m hoping he has more than one more season of story to tell. But not to the extent that if there was one great season or three mediocre ones, I’d rather have one great one. You just have to follow the creative.
