Following the release of The Bear Season 4 on Hulu, early critiques and the Rotten Tomatoes rating for the Jeremy Allen White-led psychological comedy-drama series have started surfacing. Debuting a year after its predecessor, the fourth season has predominantly received positive feedback from critics, who have lauded the “nuanced” development of Allen White’s character throughout the season. Nonetheless, some reviewers have observed a decline in quality in the most recent installment of The Bear compared to the early seasons of the franchise.
The Bear Season 4 reviews are positive, but nowhere near perfect
In the Fourth Season of “The Bear,” Carmy Berzatto’s ambition to elevate his restaurant appears to not meet expectations, as suggested by early critic reviews. It seems that the show has fallen prey to its own success, with critics praising the season’s material while simultaneously pointing out its repetitiveness.
In the fourth season, Nick Schager from The Daily Beast praised Jeremy Allen White’s character Carmy for its deeply moving portrayal. He called it a “skilled and heartfelt depiction of confronting solitude, self-destructive anger, and feelings of bitterness and resentment, using calmness, trust, and empathy as tools.
Conversely, Liam Mathews from TheWrap voiced his disapproval towards the excessive focus on characters and atmosphere in The Bear Season 4. In his critique, he labeled the episodes as “monotonous” and “lacking substance.
According to Chris Bennoin from Daily Telegraph, The Bear Season 4 has several great aspects similar to the first two seasons. However, it also includes elements that were present in the third season, which gave it a sense of purposelessness, pomposity, and frankly, dullness.
How The Bear Season 4’s Rotten Tomatoes score compares with past seasons
In a Natural and Easy-to-Read Style: Reviews for The Bear’s fourth season have been generally positive, but not as overwhelmingly good as those for its previous seasons. This is also reflected in the show’s Rotten Tomatoes rating, which is lower compared to its earlier seasons.
Currently, the fourth season of the Hulu series has received a critic rating of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 29 reviews. Remarkably, this is the lowest score among all seasons, as compared to Season 3 which garnered an impressive 89% on the Tomatometer.
Just like how my favorite games always seem to get top marks, the first two seasons of “The Bear” have been scoring exceptionally high too. In fact, Season 2 even nailed a stunning 99% rating on the Tomatometer, while Season 1 was a perfect 100%. It’s like they’re crafted for critical acclaim!
