The BBC has ruled on that Doctor Who kiss after complaints

As a seasoned gamer and long-time fan of Doctor Who, I must say that I found the recent controversy over the gay kiss between Fifteen and Rogue to be quite amusing, if not entirely surprising.

Clutch your pearls. There was a gay kiss in Doctor Who. Naturally, that led to complaints.

It’s a tale as old as time. Whenever there is something that people don’t like (or simply don’t agree with), they go down the route of it being unacceptable for children. That’s what happened with THAT kiss in “Rogue.”

Indeed, we’re discussing a scene where Fifteen and Rogue exchange a kiss, reminiscent of a Bridgerton-esque episode from Doctor Who. While most viewers found it unremarkable, there are those who were taken aback by two male characters sharing a romantic moment.

Was the kiss too quick for those watching Doctor Who?

The exact complaint came from how quickly romantic feelings seemed to form for the two characters. Two complaints were put into the BBC to say that the kiss was inappropriate because it would make children believe that this was how quickly normal romantic relationships would develop. They also complained about the innuendos during the episode.

Toward the closing moments of the episode, they exchanged a kiss, which happened after both had shown some intrigue earlier. This moment occurred when Rogue understood the great sacrifice he was about to make for Ruby Sunday. In the midst of stepping into his self-imposed prison, Rogue rescued Ruby simultaneously. Prior to this act, he shared a tender moment with Fifteen by kissing him and requesting Fifteen to locate him.

The BBC deemed the kiss in Doctor Who perfectly acceptable

According to Deadline, the BBC’s Complaints Unit examined the validity of the complaints made. Ultimately, they concluded that the kiss in question did not violate any rules or guidelines.

Although it might appear unexpected, the events leading to this point were carefully established throughout the storyline. It was filled with numerous alien encounters and a looming danger towards mankind. The evolving dynamics between characters unfolded swiftly alongside the rapid-paced plot, making perfect sense within the context of the episode. The Entertainment Content Unit finds it improbable that children would anticipate such a speedy progression as a standard rate for relationship development in this context.

The unit also said that the sexual innuendo was “mild.” What was said would go over the heads of young children.

For “Doctor Who,” the kiss between The Doctor and Yaz stood out significantly as this was the first time The Doctor expressed his romantic feelings and actually kissed someone. Unlike when John Barrowman’s Jack briefly kissed Nine before going into battle, this kiss by Thirteen was more deliberate and she had clearly shown her interest in Yaz earlier on. Despite some criticism from viewers, the scene was suitable for children to watch.
