The Batman 2 Gets Update From DC Studios Head

Regarding repeated postponements, it’s important to note that “The Batman Part II” is still in the works and recently got some fresh news from James Gunn, one of the co-CEOs at DC Studios.

Even though DC Studios has introduced a common universe known as the DC Universe, they’ll occasionally produce independent Elseworlds projects. These stories will be set in their own isolated realms. For instance, Matt Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga, encompassing The Batman (2022) and The Penguin (2024), is one such Elseworlds project that won’t intersect with the DCU.

What is the latest on The Batman 2?

In conversation with Entertainment Weekly regarding the initial DC Universe film featuring David Corenswet as Superman, Gunn provided a quick update on the progress of The Batman Part II. He stated, “Although there have been various stories suggesting otherwise, what Matt is working on remains crucial. We’re soon expected to receive that script, and I’m incredibly eager.

Gunn’s recent announcement might seem a bit repetitive to fans, as he’s been anticipating Reeves’ script for his continuation of The Batman for quite some time. Just last month, it was leaked that Reeves was supposed to submit the initial draft of the sequel’s script to Gunn and DC Studios by Memorial Day, which has since passed.

Initially, audiences were looking forward to watching The Batman Part II at the cinema in October 2025. However, contrary to the original plan, the release date of the sequel has been postponed twice – first to October 2026 and then again to October 2027. This extended wait means that it will be nearly six years between movies featuring the same actor as Batman, making it the longest interval fans have had to endure before a new film in the series.

In the upcoming sequel to “The Batman,” Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell are set to reappear, each taking on their previous characters: Batman/Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, and the Penguin/Oz Cobb. Director Matt Reeves hasn’t revealed who Pattinson’s Batman will be battling in the sequel, although there have been whispers of potential adversaries like Two-Face, Clayface, Hush, or even the Court of Owls.

The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to open in theaters on October 1, 2027.
