As a huge fan, I’ve been buzzing since Colin Farrell, who just earned a Primetime Emmy nod for his role as The Penguin, shared in a recent chat whether he’s peeked at the script for Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman sequel. Just last month, Reeves himself announced on social media that the script for “The Batman: Part II,” which he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, has been completed!
The Penguin’s Colin Farrell ‘can’t wait’ to read Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 script
Colin Farrell shared in an interview with Deadline that he hasn’t had a chance to read the script for the sequel to 2022’s The Batman yet, but he’s eagerly anticipating it. He mentioned, “I’m almost there. I can hardly wait. When I do, I’ll need to set aside some time and make myself comfortable with a hot cup of tea, ready for close attention.
Immediately following Farrell’s nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, for his portrayal of Oswald “Oz” Cobb / The Penguin in HBO’s The Penguin series, marks his first Emmy nomination. Earlier, he had been recognized with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, for his role as Pádraic Súilleabháin in the 2022 film The Banshees of Inisherin.
In his first appearance as The Penguin in “The Batman,” Farrell garnered praise for his acting skills. He’s set to reprise this role again in the future, and possibly return in “The Batman 2.” During a recent interview, Farrell complimented Reeves, stating he was both an exceptional writer and talented artist. He added that he expects the script for the next film to be gripping and thought-provoking, as Reeves takes his time to ensure perfection.
In early May, co-director James Gunn of DCU expressed his appreciation for The Batman 2 script, describing it as “excellent.” The Batman, its upcoming sequel, along with The Penguin, are elements of what Reeves and his team call the Epic Crime Saga of Batman, a series of interconnected stories.
The Batman 2 debuts in US theaters on October 1, 2027.
