The Acolyte: Why Did Osha’s Lightsaber Turn Red?

The Acolyte: Why Did Osha’s Lightsaber Turn Red?

As a long-time Star Wars fan and avid gamer, I have seen and experienced countless twists and turns in the expansive galaxy far, far away. But none have left me as stunned as the shocking revelations and transformation in the finale of “Star Wars: The Acolyte.”

In the final episode of “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” Osha finds herself in possession of Sol’s lightsaber. Later on, this weapon changes color to red while in her hand. This unexpected development leaves many viewers curious as to the reason behind it. The eighth installment, titled “The Acolyte,” delves into the complex relationship between Osha and Sol, while also exploring Osha’s potential descent into the Dark Side. As she uncovers the truth about Sol’s past deceit regarding her mother’s fate, Osha becomes determined to take revenge for what she perceives as a betrayal.

Here is why Master Sol’s lightsaber turns red in Osha’s hand.

Why did Master Sol’s lightsaber turn red in Osha’s hand?

In Episode 8, Osha discovers that Sol was the one who killed her mother. Although he explains that he acted to safeguard Osha and Mae, as per the Jedi’s belief that Mother Aniseya employed the Force Vergence to conceive them, he nevertheless concealed this truth from both Osha and the Order. Subsequently, Sol begins to choke unexpectedly, with it unclear initially who was responsible. However, it later transpires that Osha is inflicting this harm on him.

As a long-time fan of Star Wars and its intricate lore, I can’t help but be captivated by the depth of meaning behind every detail in the story. And one such detail that has always fascinated me is the connection between a Jedi or Sith’s emotions and their lightsabers.

In Star Wars history, for the very first time, we get to witness the making of a Sith lightsaber on screen. Initially, these crystals have no color at all. It’s only when a youngling selects them that they transform into various hues such as green, blue, or yellow, and even some rare colors. Since these crystals are naturally aligned with the Light Side, powerful Sith Lords like Darth Vader must use the Force to extract them, resulting in the distinctive colors of their blades. Although Osha doesn’t do this deliberately in The Acolyte, it’s a safe assumption that this is the process she follows.

Did Osha become a Sith in The Acolyte finale?

Yes, Osha becomes a Sith in The Acolyte finale.

When Sol’s lightsaber changes from blue to red, it symbolizes that she fits the role Qimir has been looking for. Given that Qimir identifies as a Sith, it’s reasonable to assume that Sol follows the same alignment.

In the final scene, Darth Plagueis is revealed to be clandestinely watching Qimir and Osha. It’s unclear if there’s any relationship between them, and if so, how it fits into the Sith’s Rule of Two during this era. The second season of The Acolyte could potentially shed light on these intriguing questions.
