As a gamer with a deep-rooted love for ’90s nostalgia and a die-hard fan of both That ’70s Show and Star Wars, I must say that the latest installment of That ’90s Show has left me utterly thrilled! The plot twists and character developments have been nothing short of exhilarating, especially Eric Forman’s career advancement in the Star Wars universe.

In the third installment of “That ’90s Show,” which debuted on Netflix on August 22, we finally get some clarity on the questions left hanging from part 2’s cliffhanger. Specifically, how will Red and Kitty respond when they stumble upon a car crash in their kitchen during a party hosted by Leia and her friends? Let’s just say they aren’t exactly overjoyed, and there are consequences to be faced. It’s intriguing to think about what the repercussions might have been if Eric had pulled off such a stunt during “That ’70s Show”!
Regarding Eric Forman, it’s worth noting that Topher Grace hasn’t made an appearance in “That ’90s Show” yet, choosing not to reprise his role from the original series. However, the spin-off sitcom does provide us with a current status of Leia’s father. In the second-to-last episode of season 3, Donna goes back to Point Place and brings some thrilling news for Leia and the family, but this news implies significant shifts in their family’s residential setup.
According to Donna’s account, avid Star Wars enthusiast Eric has been given an extraordinary opportunity: he will work at Skywalker Ranch, learning under creator and director George Lucas, to write a book detailing the creation of the upcoming Star Wars prequel films. Since the events in That ’90s Show part 3 occurred in 1996, The Phantom Menace was not yet released in cinemas.
Eric Forman’s Star Wars fandom becomes a career
Fans of That ’70s Show are well aware of his deep affection for Star Wars, as evidenced by the fact that he named his only child after Carrie Fisher’s famous character, Princess Leia Organa. Interestingly, the first Star Wars movie was released in 1977, which happens to be the same time period as That ’70s Show takes place. Securing this ideal job for Eric can be seen as a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Before teaming up with George Lucas, Eric was previously a university professor in Chicago, where he instructed a class about, you guessed it, Star Wars. Among the events in That ’90s Show part 3, Eric’s plotline – though it unfolds offscreen – will be the most exciting of the season. It’s been quite some time since we received an update on Eric, so this development is certainly intriguing! (As for Grace, she has only appeared in the pilot episode of the sequel series so far.)
It’s clear that the historian job with George Lucas means he’ll be leaving his home with the Forman family in Chicago, since he’ll be working full-time in California. Instead of moving the entire family to California, Donna permits Leia to relocate to Point Place for school with her friends. In this setup, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Eric in Point Place anytime soon as Donna will be splitting her time between Leia and Eric.
Among the main characters from That ’70s Show, Laura Prepon was the sole one to reprise her role in parts 2 and 3 of That ’90s Show, taking it a step further by directing all eight episodes of part 3. However, Mila Kunis had earlier announced that she and her on-screen husband Ashton Kutcher wouldn’t be returning for the series. As for Wilmer Valderrama and Topher Grace, they haven’t spoken about any potential future appearances in the show.
If Netflix decides to continue That ’90s Show for a fourth season, the series might shift its focus to depicting the school year in Point Place instead of just one summer break for Leia. Yet, it would be quite entertaining if the characters could embark on a trip to California to meet Eric and hear updates about him. Here’s hoping for both the show’s renewal and Topher Grace’s return to the cast!
