As an ardent fan of Tamil cinema, I must say that the wait for Thangalaan’s OTT release was like being caught in a monsoon without an umbrella – damp, drizzly, and filled with anticipation! The film, under the masterful direction of Pa Ranjith, is a testament to his creative genius, and Vikram’s performance is nothing short of mesmerizing.
This year’s August release by Chiyaan Vikram, Thangalaan, was a massive success at the box office compared to other movies that premiered on Independence Day. The action-adventure film resonated with many viewers and is now available for streaming on OTT platforms.
I must admit, unlike other films I’ve been eagerly anticipating, Thangalaan took a more subdued approach with its digital release on December 10. But fear not, Chiyaan Vikram fans! This highly-anticipated film is now accessible for streaming in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi languages, right here on Netflix.

For the unversed, there has been quite a significant delay for Thangalaan to mark its OTT release.
Unlike most movies that typically have a four-week gap following their cinema release, the film directed by Pa Ranjith encountered some alleged financial difficulties, causing a delay in its release.
Contrarily, Gnanavel Raja, the film’s producer, swiftly debunked such rumors as early as October 14th. He confidently stated that the movie, Thangalaan, would indeed be available on Netflix by Diwali 2024.
I’ve learned that Netflix has planned to release the highly-anticipated movie “Thangalaan” during Deepavali (Diwali). Given its grand scale, they thought a festival launch would be fitting. However, some popular YouTubers have been vocal about potential issues with the film. Sometimes, these influencers tend to exaggerate or claim problems when, in fact, there might not be any underlying issues at all.
Additionally, it was reported that a petition was submitted to the court in Thiruvalluvar by an individual, claiming the movie portrayed negatively against the Vaishnavite community. Subsequently, the Madras High Court prohibited the online streaming of the film, leading to further postponement.
After the court case, the High Court subsequently decided to lift the ban, denying the appeal brought forth by the plaintiff.
Regarding the global earnings of the movie Thangalaan, it had an average performance and ended with a total revenue of approximately Rs. 72 crores, falling short of expectations.
Nevertheless, it’s the film’s idea development, scriptwriting, and acting performances that have earned praise from numerous critics.
In addition to the film Chiyaan Vikram, directed by Pa Ranjith, there were other notable stars such as Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone, Anandsami, and others.
