A group consisting of Jordan Peele, A24, Taylor Sheridan, among others, are collectively aiming to secure the remake rights for “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Back in 1974, I was introduced to an unforgettable horror masterpiece – the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, directed by Tobe Hooper. This groundbreaking film gave life to a chilling cinematic universe that expanded over the years with notable sequels such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986), Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990), The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1995), and more recent installments like The Texas Ch chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006), Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013), Leatherface (2017), and the latest addition, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022).
Who is vying for the rights to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot?
Based on a recent report by Deadline, it’s anticipated that a competition among potential buyers for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre intellectual property (which encompasses movies, TV shows, live events, and video games) will kick off as early as next Monday, June 9, 2025.
At present, several significant players are preparing to propose their ideas to Verve, an agency that has managed the rights for the slasher franchise since 2017.
Each of Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan, Longlegs’ Oz Perkins, and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions are independently exploring the idea and preparing proposals for the project. At this stage, if they were given the rights, all three would only act as producers. However, Perkins might also collaborate with Bryan Bertino on the scriptwriting for NEON.
Moreover, J.T. Mollner and Roy Lee are preparing a television proposal that aligns with A24, featuring Austin, TX-native Glen Powell, though he won’t be the main star. Interestingly, A24 is also developing a Friday the 13th series called Crystal Lake.
In the meantime, Lee is presenting another idea for a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie to Netflix, the same platform that released the latest installment of the series.
Further information about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, whether it’s a TV show or movie, hasn’t been officially confirmed yet by any production company. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge later on.
