As a gamer with decades of gaming experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic excitement at the announcement of Tetris Forever! With my fingers still calloused from countless hours spent stacking those colorful blocks, I’m eagerly awaiting this new collection. The fact that some of these games have never been released in the U.S. before just adds to the allure.
On Thursday, Digital Eclipse unveiled “Tetris Forever,” the newest addition to their Gold Master Series of documentarian video games. This compilation includes a variety of Tetris games, some of which have not previously been available in the United States.
When does Tetris Forever come out?
The classic game Tetris will be coming out towards the end of this year for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and personal computers. At the moment, a specific release date hasn’t been unveiled.
First unveiled in a short preview during Nintendo’s Direct presentation last August, Tetris Forever is set to gather 14 games from across the franchise’s 40-year legacy. Among these are titles making their debut outside of Japan for the very first time, as well as an accurate representation of the original Tetris game.
Just like previous Gold Master Series versions, Tetris Forever will offer an interactive timeline showcasing the history of Tetris, accompanied by approximately 90 minutes of fresh documentary featurettes about the franchise. These documentaries are produced by Area 5, a company known for creating “behind-the-scenes” content related to video games.
Additionally to the original 13 games, there’s a fresh addition to the series called Tetris Time Warp, exclusively created by Digital Eclipse. This game will be part of Tetris Forever. As the developer explains, Tetris Time Warp offers a blend of graphics, gaming styles, and mechanisms that evolve in real-time.
