Recently, Tesla unveiled its robotaxi project, the Cybercab, earlier this month. A fully autonomous vehicle was demonstrated driving Elon Musk around a secluded film studio, although it’s worth noting that Tesla has already started deploying this technology on public roads. Some Tesla staff members have been trialing an FSD ride-hailing app in San Francisco, California.
During Tesla’s Q3 2024 earnings meeting, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, revealed that they have been road-testing their novel ride-sharing application in San Francisco before its official launch. As shown during this month’s robotaxi event, the app will enable users to summon a driverless vehicle to their location and be dropped off at another destination.
It’s unclear which Tesla cars are being tested with the new app, and since the Cybercab was only recently unveiled, it seems unlikely that it’s one of them. However, regarding other updates from Tesla, they announced that the Cybertruck managed to achieve a positive gross margin during Q3.
