Terry Gilliam’s Carnival Gets Update, Cast Includes Johnny Depp, Adam Driver, & More

A new update for Terry Gilliam’s next movie has emerged online.

Presently, Gilliam is working on a film that was initially called “The Carnival at the End of Days,” but now seems to simply go by “Carnival.” Notably, Gilliam collaborated with Terry Jones to co-direct the 1975 movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” Additionally, he has directed films like “Time Bandits” (1981) and “12 Monkeys” (1995), among others.

What is the update on Terry Gilliam’s Carnival movie?

In a conversation with Box Office (an Italian publication), Guglielmo Marchetti from Notorious Pictures revealed that the production of Carnival is underway, and it will feature Johnny Depp, Jeff Bridges, Jason Momoa, Adam Driver, Asa Butterfield, and Emma Laird in the starring roles.

In early 2025, we’ll kick off an extraordinary project that I’m particularly proud to be a part of. This is following my involvement in distributing “Doctor Parnassus” back in 2009, and I’m thrilled to collaborate again with the renowned director Terry Gilliam. The film, titled “Carnival,” boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Johnny Depp, Jeff Bridges, Jason Momoa, Adam Driver, Asa Butterfield, and Emma Laird. In the creation of this movie, Italian executive producers and multiple post-production companies will join forces with American producers. The Cinecittà sound stages will serve as our interiors, and over 3,000 people in Italy will be employed during the filming process.

Previously, Gilliam described the film as follows: “In this story, God decides to destroy humanity due to our mistreatment of Earth. The only one who wants to save them is none other than Satan, played by Johnny Depp. This film is essentially a humorous take on God punishing humanity for ruining His beautiful creation, Earth. The twist here is that the character trying to save humanity is none other than Satan himself. He’s doing this because without humans, he’s out of work, and being an eternal entity, not having a job is unbearable. So, he seeks out some young individuals and attempts to persuade God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve, allowing God to still carry out humanity’s destruction.

A release date for Carnival has not yet been announced.
