Territory season 2 could happen (but isn't necessary) after explosive ending revelation

As a bona fide fan of gritty Australian dramas, I can wholeheartedly vouch for the exhilarating rollercoaster ride that is “Territory” on Netflix. This Western-style drama leaves no stone unturned and keeps you gripped from start to finish with its unpredictable twists and shocking revelations.

Warning: Minor spoilers ahead from Territory on Netflix.

Once you begin streaming “Territory” on Netflix, prepare for an exhilarating rollercoaster ride. This Australian Western series doesn’t slow down from start to finish, offering unexpected twists and turns that will leave you gripped on the edge of your seat and speechless. After witnessing the final episode, you might find yourself eagerly anticipating season 2.

The story unfolds on Marianne Station, an expansive and influential cattle farm undergoing transformations. After the demise of one of their kin, the Lawson family’s strategies for inheritance crumble, creating a power vacuum that invites competitors and neighbors to seize an opportunity to claim a share of the property.

Let’s delve into the thrilling climax of the show without spoiling its biggest twists, and ponder if another season might still be in store once we’ve considered the implications of all the revelations. What potential developments may lie ahead for the Lawsons and Marianne Station?

Territory season 2 could happen (but isn't necessary) after explosive ending revelation

Colin learns the truth about Daniel

In the premiere of “Territory“, the Lawson clan is left in shock as Daniel Lawson, the designated heir to Marianne Station, is discovered deceased on the property. He was fatally shot, abandoned, and attacked by a group of dingoes. The family grapples with the harsh truth that this event leaves the future of Marianne Station uncertain. Who steps up to take charge? Could it be Graham and Emily? Or perhaps Susie or Marshall?

Over the course of six episodes, the Lawson family face challenges from opponents, a wealthy miner, and locals while striving to preserve their cattle ranch for future generations. Initially, Colin plans to make his grandson Marshall the inheritor of Marianne Station, bypassing his son Graham and troubled father, as well as his determined and diligent granddaughter Susie.

At the close of the season, Colin uncovers the facts behind Daniel’s shooting and demise, which ironically occurred after he appointed new leaders for Marianne Station. He then passes on control and is instantly presented with the bullets that incapacitated his son, leaving him helpless against the dingoes. This revelation comes as a profound surprise, as we had anticipated the perpetrator escaping justice.

Territory season 2 isn’t necessary

Although the “Territory” conclusion leaves room for the narrative to progress given the game’s transformation, it isn’t necessarily required that the story carries on further. While some may argue differently, the ending doesn’t present a traditional cliffhanger. Indeed, there are several unanswered questions regarding the future events, but by the final scene’s end, we have been given all the information the three characters involved in the scenario possess.

The six episodes collectively convey a comprehensive narrative about the ownership and transfer of Marianne Station. Should a second season arise, it’s likely that several cast members from season 1 might not return, given the high number of character deaths throughout the season and the climactic shootout in the finale. However, fresh characters could certainly be introduced to tell a new story.

In the show “Territory”, it isn’t a spoiler to mention that Marshall doesn’t perish, but he decides to depart from Marianne Station at the end of episode 6. Given all that has transpired, it seems unlikely for him to remain there. If there’s a possibility of a second season, the scriptwriters would need to create another compelling reason for Marshall to retrace his steps back to Marianne, or else Sam Corlett might not be a main character in the series.

It’s undetermined by Netflix if the show Territory is intended to be a limited series or if they might commission a second season based on strong viewership in the first run. From my perspective, I believe another season should only be produced if there’s an engaging storyline that matches or surpasses the quality of the one presented in season 1. We will keep an eye on Netflix’s decision and inform fans about the future of this captivating drama series.

Watch Territory only on Netflix.
