Prior to the launch of Shout! TV’s first episode of Double Take on March 21, showcasing a special double-themed feature for Women’s History Month with Terrifier and Return To Nuke ‘Em High, Catherine Corcoran, the actress, took a moment to ponder her role in horror and the memorable hacksaw kill that significantly contributed to making Art the Clown an innovative slasher icon.
Before the premiere of Shout! TV’s Double Take episode on March 21 (dedicated to Women’s History Month with Terrifier and Return To Nuke ‘Em High), Catherine Corcoran, the actress known for her work in horror, reminisced about her impact in the genre and the famous hacksaw scene that aided in making Art the Clown a new slasher legend.
8 p.m. Eastern Time / 5 p.m. Pacific Time marks the start of Catherine’s presentation. She will showcase two films: “K-19: The Widowmaker,” helmed by Kathryn Bigelow, and “Misbehaviour,” directed by Philippa Lowthorpe. This event is a tribute to women in cinema.
In a casual and engaging manner: “It’s quite surprising when people ask me about solidifying Art the Clown as a slasher villain in the movie ‘Terrifier’, because honestly, during production, we had no idea it would grow into such a phenomenon. However, Damien did tell me during the filming of the hacksaw scene that night: ‘Catherine, are you ready to make horror movie history?’ I remember thinking he was joking, saying there was no way this film would be watched. But look at us now!” – Corcoran shared with ComingSoon about her work on the original film.
The project continues to grow at an astonishing rate, transforming into a colossal entity. It has become something truly remarkable and distinct, a bond between Damien, Jenna Kanell, Sam Scaffidi, David Howard Thornton, and myself that is extraordinary in its depth and rarity. Unlike others who have joined the franchise, we were driven purely by love for what we were doing. To think that something originating from a budget of $30,000 has grown into this massive franchise is simply incredible. If our creation has become the iconic villain of this generation, I feel incredibly fortunate to have played a role in its development. That’s truly a powerful testament.
As a die-hard fan, I’ve got to admit, my in-game character’s demise has probably nixed any future appearances of Art the Clown in the Terrifier films. But hey, who needs movies when you can groove to the tunes? Lately, I found myself starring in the music video for Ice Nine Kills’ “A Work of Art.” It’s a fantastic tribute to the franchise, and yep, you guessed it, Art the Clown makes an appearance too!
Spencer Charnas is one of my dearest friends, and I’m incredibly grateful that he frequently finds ways to honor me and my projects, albeit in unique and sometimes unconventional manners. It was amusing because although there are scenes featuring us and various props that recur in the movies, I haven’t stepped foot back on the Terrifier set since we filmed the initial movie. A poignant moment occurred when David and I were reunited in a room filled with people for the first time, collaborating with Chris Nelson, who is an Academy Award-winning special effects artist. It’s said that someone shared a video of us together with Damien, which moved him to tears.” (Corcoran)
I believe that if I were to return to it, I’d prefer to do so with the individuals who inspire my creativity and whom I hold dear. Fortunately, this opportunity presented itself with Spencer and the entire band, Ricky, Mike, Joe, and many other remarkable people who genuinely care for me. Not only did my friend Leah Voysey become a part of it, but she’s also one of my closest friends. If there’s any chance to revisit this endeavor, it should be with companions like these, whether they are spectators or participants. As such, I am deeply grateful for their support and the opportunity they provided me.
