Telegram-based Blogger Sells Username on Fragment Platform for Over $80K in TON

Technology blogger Pavel Federov made a significant gain of $84,750 (equivalent to 15,000 Toncoin) by selling an old Telegram username @pavel on the Fragment platform, a marketplace built on the Toncoin blockchain. This transaction took place on April 23, as revealed by on-chain data. Remarkably, Federov had obtained this Telegram username nine years prior for no cost at all.

After obtaining the Telegram handle @Pavel for himself, the crypto entrepreneur known as @founder presented this collectible to tech billionaire and Telegram CEO Pavel Durov. Notably, @founder is a well-known collector of Telegram usernames with over a dozen accounts such as @babydoge and @memecoins, among others.

“Kudos to Pavel Federov and a big ‘thank you’ to @founder for their generous donation. This act highlights the perks of Telegram users having control over their usernames. In the past 18 months, an impressive $350 million worth of Telegram usernames and anonymous numbers have been purchased by users.”

During this time, Durov mentioned that he bought the Telegram username @Paul for an impressive 10,000 TONs on the Fragment marketplace to prevent further generous donations.

On the TON blockchain, the Fragment platform enables over 900 million Telegram users to earn money from their individual usernames. Anonymously, Telegram members can exchange numbers that aren’t linked to a particular SIM card. Furthermore, the Fragment platform offers opportunities for users to purchase ads on public Telegram channels and access premium Telegram content with payment.

More recently, USDT, the biggest stablecoin backed by the US dollar, became available on The Open Network, having already been minted in over $60 million worth on the blockchain. Consequently, Telegram users can now effortlessly transfer and receive USDT through their accounts at a near-instantaneous pace.
