As a long-time fan of the Tekken series, I was absolutely thrilled to witness Bandai Namco’s announcements at EVO 2024. The anticipation in the air was palpable as we eagerly awaited news on new content for Tekken 8.
On the last day of EVO 2024, the third and final day, Bandai Namco brought exciting news for Tekken 8 fans. Surprisingly, they have significant updates in store, including new storyline downloadable content. This content will bring back a character believed to be deceased by all, Heihachi Mishima. Despite being thrown into an active volcano, Heihachi has miraculously survived and will join Tekken 8 as the next DLC character.
In Tekken 8’s latest narrative expansion, a clandestine organization called the Tekken Monks emerges, instigating hostilities against the Mishima Zaibatsu. The identities and intentions of these disciplined martial artists remain a mystery as players delve into the storyline by assuming the personas of various Tekken 8 characters, including newcomers Eddy Gordo and Lidia Sobieska. It isn’t until the climax that the mastermind behind the Tekken Monks is unmasked.
Heihachi’s assumption of certain death after battling Kazuya atop an active volcano in Tekken 7 was incorrect. To the disappointment of many Tekken characters, Heihachi managed to survive being hurled into the volcano’s core. With renewed fervor for revenge, he’ll not only contribute to the game’s narrative but also be revealed as the third downloadable fighter in Tekken 8.
Over the thrilling EVO weekend, Bandai Namco and Tekken 8 unveiled some major partnerships. Chipotle and Nike were among the brands that collaborated with the publisher, leading to exciting announcements about new cosmetics for avatars, characters, and even a fresh stage called Urban Square. This vibrant setting is modeled after a bustling city intersection, reminiscent of Times Square in New York.
