Teja Sajja's Hanu-Man, Payal Rajput's Mangalavaraaram, and THIS film in the race for Oscar nominations? Here’s what we know

As someone who has been following the trajectory of South cinema with a keen eye and an even keener heart, I must say that this news about the potential nominations for three Telugu films at the Oscars 2025 has filled me with an uncontainable excitement!

In recent times, South cinematic productions have been thriving, leaving audiences thrilled by exceptional performances from burgeoning talents in the industry. Now, there’s an exciting possibility that three distinguished Telugu films could compete on a global scale following nominations for the Oscars 2025.

123Telugu’s report suggests that three highly acclaimed Telugu films, Hanu-Man by Teja Sajja, Mangalavaraaram starring Payal Rajput, and the critically acclaimed sci-fi historical film Kalki 2898 AD featuring Prabhas, could potentially secure nominations for the Oscars in 2025.

Today, September 23, 2024, it’s still uncertain which films will make it, but ultimately, it’s up to the Film Federation of India to decide the nominees for the Oscars 2025, set to be announced today.

Previously, the movie “RRR” directed by SS Rajamouli stood out as a grand masterpiece featuring Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Alia Bhatt. This film later gained recognition on a worldwide scale, marking a significant milestone by becoming the first Telugu film to receive an Oscar award.

In just a short while, the lively tune “Naatu Naatu” from the movie, created by MM Keeravani, skyrocketed to international fame and won the prestigious prize for the category of Best Original Song Award.

It appears that this year’s list of Telugu films up for nominations holds a strong promise for bringing honor to our country. As for Hanu-Man, it managed to secure the ninth spot among Tollywood’s highest grossing films and raked in an astonishing Rs 350 crores at the box office.

Instead of that, Ajay Bhupathi’s film Mangalavaraaram garnered significant interest due to its nail-biting psychological suspense and was translated into four regional languages. The movie received overwhelming acclaim from the audience, whether for its talented cast or its captivating plotline, providing a unique perspective.

Lastly, but certainly not inconsequentially, is the motion picture titled Kalki 2898AD, featuring Prabhas. Boasting a strong ensemble cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani among others, this film has garnered significant acclaim for its scientific treatment of the Mahabharata epic.
