Ted Season 1 Blu-ray Review: Foul-Mouthed Fun

As a longtime fan of Seth MacFarlane’s comedic genius, I can confidently say that the Ted Season 1 Blu-ray is a must-have for any MacFarlane enthusiast! Growing up with Family Guy and the original Ted movies, I was thrilled to see the continuation of this hilarious duo in their formative years.

The most recent television series that’s been released on physical media is Peacock’s Ted spin-off. This prequel series, modeled after the Seth MacFarlane film, delves into the early life of the crude teddy bear character, serving as a negative influence for the teenage John (portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in the films). The Ted Season 1 Blu-ray compilation features all seven episodes and is an excellent addition to any fan of Seth MacFarlane’s work.

Ted is a humorous, half-hour sitcom revolving around a lively teddy bear brought to life by a childhood wish, created by Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy fame. The series follows John Bennett, a Boston teenager, and his best friend Ted, a potty-mouthed teddy bear. In the 90s, after their moment of fame has faded, they find themselves back in high school. Together, they navigate the ups and downs of adolescent life, all while taking the occasional bong hit. Despite not always being a good influence on John, Ted is always ready to help his friend and family when it matters most.

Your level of appreciation for the Ted TV series is strongly influenced by whether you found enjoyment in the 2012 movie and its 2015 sequel. If those films resonated with you, that’s fantastic! Seth MacFarlane returns to voice the character, bringing his distinctive voice to the inebriated and marijuana-smoking teddy bear. However, if those movies didn’t appeal to you, this TV series won’t likely sway your opinion, although it effectively adapts a sitcom format by concocting amusing escapades for the pair (such as a chaotic Halloween night or Ted assisting John in losing his virginity).

As a gaming enthusiast who’s fond of those films, let me tell you that if you jump on the Ted bandwagon, you’re in for a treat! You’ll be thrilled with some of the nods to the movies, like uncovering the genesis of “Thunder Buddies,” and while there are a few changes (like alterations in John’s parental names), they don’t take away from the overall fun. Over its seven episodes, each episode clocks in at around 40 minutes, giving you as much content as the two movies combined! Seth MacFarlane continues to shine as Ted and remains just as hilarious as ever. Max Burkholder does a commendable job as our human protagonist. Initially, he might seem a bit old for the part of a 16-year-old, but after giving it some time, you’ll find that he’s not the most egregious case of an adult playing a high schooler.

Similar to numerous home versions of streaming series, the Ted Season 1 Blu-ray doesn’t include any extra features, which can be underwhelming. However, it’s worth noting that this two-disc set boasts more attractive packaging than many other basic releases. Each disc showcases artwork instead of just the movie title, which is a trend I find regrettable. The first disc contains the first four episodes, while the second holds the remaining three. Inside the Blu-ray case, you’ll find details about what each disc offers, as well as synopses for each episode, making it straightforward to revisit a particular storyline in the future if desired.

Ted Season 1 Blu-ray Review: Final Verdict

Despite its basic features, the first season of Ted on Blu-ray is a solid choice due to the hilarious Peacock series that remains entertaining even on repeat viewings. This set is perfect for collectors, especially if you’ve already got the two Ted films in your collection. It’s always delightful when streaming shows transition from digital to physical media. If you’re a fan of Seth MacFarlane’s humor, this series will feel like a raunchy reunion. Although it may not be highbrow art, it promises plenty of laughter as we anticipate Season 2.
