Ted McGinley Reflects on Revenge of the Nerds’ 40th Anniversary

As a huge fan of classic films, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of nostalgia whenever I think about “Revenge of the Nerds.” Forty years have passed since this groundbreaking comedy hit theaters, and yet its impact on pop culture remains as strong as ever.

As a big fan of Ted McGinely’s work, I’ve been excited to hear him reflect on the lasting impact of “Revenge of the Nerds” as it approaches its 40-year milestone.

During an interview with ComingSoon, McGinley shared his reflections on Revenge of the Nerds after so many years. Initially, he felt ashamed when offered a role in the film due to its title. However, his feelings towards it soon evolved.

McGinley expressed his pride and amazement, stating, “I’m really proud of it. I believe it has withstood the test of time. What’s truly fascinating is that this actually unfolded – the underdog nerds seized power and triumphed, and they will continue to do so.” He went on, “I find that thrilling. Initially, when I began working on the film, I was ashamed to admit its title – Revenge of the Nerds. But after attending our first dailies session, complete with pizza, sandwiches, and beer, in a room filled with team members, I no longer had any qualms about saying those words.”

McGinley shared the specific moment that shifted his perspective that day, and he noted that the film attracts new fans periodically.

“As soon as I witnessed that particular scene – the father driving the station wagon full of kids, or Jamie Cromwell handling them – I couldn’t help but find their laughter contagious and hilarious. It was an instant sign for me that this production would be successful and well-received. For a long time, it was deemed unsuitable for younger viewers. However, when they reached a certain age, a new wave of fans discovered it and enjoyed it.”
