The lengthy and challenging struggle Taylor Swift underwent to regain ownership of her music has finally concluded. Excited fans worldwide are flooding the internet to join in the celebration, as Swift herself announced this week’s triumph. Curiosity runs high among Swifties, who eagerly seek out every detail about when and how this significant event transpired.
So, without further ado, here’s everything to know.
Taylor Swift officially reclaimed her master recordings
On May 30, 2025, Taylor Swift made a heartfelt announcement on her official site, disclosing some major news. The renowned pop artist declared that she had successfully reacquired ownership of her entire music library from Shamrock Capital.
Back in November 16, 2020, I was overjoyed when Swift’s discography found a new home with Shamrock Music after Scooter Braun and Ithaca Holdings parted ways with the rights. Now, more than five years on, it’s fantastic to know that those master recordings have finally been returned to their rightful owner – none other than Taylor Swift herself!
Ever since I learned that this is actually taking place, I’ve been unexpectedly overcome with joy and tears, and I can finally utter these phrases: Every tune I’ve ever composed… is now officially mine, as Swift wrote.
I can’t help but express my heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of you who’ve stood by me throughout this journey. Taylor Swift also gave a special nod to Shamrock for being the pioneers in extending the offer that kick-started everything. Although I’m keeping the specifics of the deal confidential, it’s been reported by Billboard that my catalog was sold for an approximate sum of $360 million. What a ride!
According to a Page Six article, the actual sum may be significantly greater. Upon acquiring Big Machine Label Group in 2019, Scooter Braun obtained the rights to Taylor Swift’s music, sparking a high-profile conflict between the pop star and the producer.
Two months following the agreement, Taylor Swift unveiled her plan to re-record her entire discography, marking the commencement of the Taylor’s Version phase. This move encompassed revamped versions of her hit albums such as Fearless, Speak Now, Red, and 1989.
In her private message, Swift also cleared up any doubts about when the remastered versions of her debut album and “Reputation” might be released. She stated, “There’s a possibility that these two albums could resurface at an appropriate time, if it’s something you’d all look forward to.” However, she added, “If they do come out, it won’t stem from any lingering sadness or longing for what might have been. Instead, it would simply be a joyous occasion.
