As a fan, I am absolutely captivated by the inspiring story of Tara Davis Woodhall’s husband, Hunter Woodhall. His resilience and determination are nothing short of remarkable. Born with fibular hemimelia, he faced numerous challenges early in life that would have deterred most people. But not Hunter.
Viewers of the Olympics have taken notice of Tara Davis’ spouse, Hunter Woodhall, following news that he will participate in the Paralympics after the 2024 Paris Games. On Thursday, August 8, Tara Davis Woodhall brought home gold for Team USA in the long jump competition, an achievement she shared with a visibly moved Hunter who embraced his wife from the stands. However, not everyone may be familiar with him. Here’s more information about Hunter Woodhall, his background, and his journey.
Who is Tara Davis Woodhall’s husband, Hunter?
Hunter Woodhall, a member of Team USA, is a seasoned sprinter who has garnered multiple medals in previous Olympic competitions. At the tender age of 11 months, a condition called fibular hemimelia led to the amputation of both his legs.
The fibula is the bone located on the outside of your lower leg, next to the tibia. People with a condition called fibular hemimelia may have either a short or no fibula at all. In an interview with Travel & Leisure magazine in February 2024, Hunter shared that he was born with this birth defect. Although he had feet, his fibula was missing in both legs, his ankle was fused to his right leg, and he only had nine toes.
In their attempts to find solutions, specialists found no success, leading Hunter’s parents to seek help at Shriners Hospital for Children. This hospital proposed amputation as a potential solution. Six months following the operation, Hunter mastered walking with prosthetic limbs. During his youth, one of his memorable experiences was a visit to Vancouver where he attended the 2010 Winter Paralympic Games; his parents took him there to demonstrate what could be achieved.
As a result of this experience, he participated in the 2015 United States National Paralympic Team for international competitions. This participation brought him two silver and one bronze medal at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships. He went on to win more medals at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Paralympics.
Back in 2017, during a track meet held in Idaho, I crossed paths with Tara. We posted about it on YouTube in 2018. From the get-go, there was an instant attraction between us, which eventually led to our marriage on October 16, 2022. Looking forward, I’ll be competing again for the 2024 Paralympic Games, scheduled from August 28 to September 8.
