As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experiences under my belt, I can’t help but feel a whirlwind of emotions upon hearing the news about Hi-Fi Rush and Tango Gameworks. The rollercoaster ride this IP has taken me on since its surprise release earlier this year has been nothing short of exhilarating!
The tale of Hi-Fi Rush isn’t finished yet. The unexpectedly successful video game launched at the beginning of 2023 might continue with a new franchise, as Krafton takes over Tango Gameworks. The company known for PUBG: Battlegrounds is now in possession of both the developer and the rights to the intellectual property.
On August 12th, 2024, Krafton announced its acquisition of Tango Gameworks, the creators of the highly praised 2023 game, Hi-Fi Rush. The announcement stated that the South Korean publisher intends to aid the developers in their work on the Hi-Fi Rush franchise while also looking into future projects together.
In this partnership, Krafton, Xbox, and ZeniMax aim to facilitate a seamless shift at Tango Gameworks, preserving consistency throughout the process. According to the announcement, there will be no interruption in the distribution of games by Tango Gameworks; they will continue to be accessible wherever they are currently offered. However, it’s unclear yet whether this collaboration might influence the physical release of Hi-Fi Rush.
Microsoft surprised many enthusiasts when they chose to close Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin studios in May this year. Subsequently, The Verge disclosed that Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, stated during an Xbox town hall meeting that “We require smaller games that bring us recognition and accolades.” It’s definitely intriguing to hear such a statement on the day following the closure of a studio renowned for one of the top-rated Xbox exclusive titles of 2023.
Keep a close eye on Shacknews for updates regarding Tango Gameworks and any possible sequel to Hi-Fi Rush, receiving a commendable 9/10 in our assessment.
