Tales of the Walking Dead's Poppy Liu stars in Netflix comedy series No Good Deed

As a gamer with a penchant for dark comedies and a soft spot for engaging narratives, I am genuinely excited about the upcoming Netflix series “No Good Deed.” The ensemble cast, led by Poppy Liu, Emmy Award-winner Ray Romano, and Lisa Kudrow, promises an intriguing exploration of the human psyche amidst the competition to purchase a seemingly idyllic house in Los Angeles.

Actress Poppy Liu is widely recognized for her performances in shows such as “Hacks,” “The Afterparty,” and “Dead Ringers.” She also made an appearance in a single episode of “Tales of the Walking Dead.” Coming up, viewers can catch Liu in the Netflix series titled “No Good Deed.

In this darkly humorous storyline, we find three families vying for a desirable house in LA’s vibrant 1920s Spanish-style architecture scene. Each family envisions that the property, which they believe will be their solution to all troubles, is actually harboring unforeseen challenges – challenges the current homeowners have already experienced firsthand.

The show “No Good Deed” was developed by Liz Feldman, recognized for her work on “Dead to Me.” During the production of the final season of “Dead to Me,” Feldman conceived the concept for this new series, envisioning Linda Cardellini in the character of Margo. As Cardellini yearned to play a role contrasting her character Judy from “Dead to Me,” Feldman saw this as an opportunity.

The new trailer offers a peek into what’s to come in the series, starring Ray Romano (Emmy winner), Lisa Kudrow, along with others including Cardellini, Luke Wilson, Teyonah Parris, Abbi Jacobson, Denis Leary, and O-T Fagbenle.

Dead to Me will premiere on Netflix on Dec. 12, 2024.

The series consists of eight half-hour episodes and is set in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Los Feliz, of which Feldman describes: “It’s picturesque in both good and dark ways.”

Kudrow and Romano portray The Morgans, an empty-nesting couple looking to sell their long-lived home, who unintentionally stumble into a tumultuous predicament during the sale process. Trying to conceal the house’s hidden, ominous past, they might need to confront their history in order to escape it.

The show features a vibrant cast, among them is Sarah, Liu’s wife portrayed by Jacobson’s Leslie, who serves as the ethical guide in their relationship. She harbors her own mysteries. The duo are overjoyed upon discovering that the house they have always admired has finally gone up for sale.

Lately, Liu has appeared in a few comedies such as “Space Cadet” alongside Emma Roberts (available on Amazon Prime Video), “Hacks” (streaming on HBO Max), and “The After Party” from Apple TV.

If you have yet to watch Liu alongside Anthony Edwards in The Walking Dead spinoff, Tales of the Walking Dead, you are missing out. The series is an apocalyptic anthology spinoff in which each episode features new characters in the same world as TWD. Liu and Edwards star in the fourth episode, “Amy/Dr. Everett,” in a story set in what is known as the Dead Sector. Edwards plays a naturalist who studies the undead in the Dead Sector and encounters a spirited settler, Amy, played by Liu. The entire series can be viewed via AMC+.
