Take-Two Interactive (TTWO) confirms it has sold Private Division

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve witnessed the ebb and flow of the gaming industry like the tides of the sea. The news that Take-Two Interactive has decided to part ways with its indie game powerhouse, Private Division, leaves me feeling a bit like the last leaf clinging to a barren tree in winter.

It seems that the company Take-Two Interactive has decided to sell its division, Private Division, which specializes in indie games. For several years, this division served as Take-Two’s leading arm for A and AA gaming, publishing numerous independent game developers from third parties. Regrettably, Take-Two is ending its relationship with the division, having announced that it has sold Private Division to a buyer whose identity remains undisclosed at present.

During their Q2 2025 earnings results call this week, leaders from Take-Two Interactive (TTWO) revealed the sale of Private Division. They provided some information regarding the deal, but the exact purchase price and identity of the buyer were not yet disclosed.

2024 has been a bustling year for me as part of the Private Division team, with numerous projects simmering away. Earlier this year, we were privileged to help bring Penny’s Big Breakaway to life – an engaging 3D platformer that I’ve had a blast playing. Currently, we’re also diligently crafting Tales of the Shire, a cozy game nestled within Middle-earth’s lore, which is slated for release in 2025. It appears this project will now be under the care of our new game development overseer post-2024.

We’re still waiting on a few details in this story, such as what group bought Private Division and for how much. With that in mind, stay tuned for more updates and coverage on the Private Division topic as news drops.
