As a long-time Outlander fanatic who has witnessed the tumultuous journey of Jamie Fraser and his entangled love life, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation as Laoghaire makes her return to the small screen in Season 7B. It seems that old wounds still fester between Jamie and this former flame, and it’s not hard to see why.
In the seventh season of ‘Outlander’, Claire and Jamie have returned to Scotland. There’s someone Jamie feels compelled to meet, and it turns out that character portrayed by Nell Hudson is making a comeback. Here’s a glimpse of her reappearance.
As the premiere of Outlander Season 7B draws near, Starz is ramping up promotion for the series. Recently, they’ve unveiled new episode stills, and among them are scenes featuring Laoghaire. These images are tagged as being from Episode 9 of the season (which is the premiere), and we can expect to see young Joanie in the same episode since her return in Outlander Season 7 has been confirmed.
Where did we last leave Laoghaire in Outlander?
The images show Jamie and Laoghaire talking, and things aren’t looking great. That’s not surprising with the way the two left things.
Jamie wed Laoghaire during the time when Claire was absent. Since Jamie believed he wouldn’t reunite with Claire, and Jenny advised him to proceed, there was an obvious problem when Claire reappeared. It turned out that Jamie had entered into a marriage with another woman, which was illegal.
At the time in question, Jamie and Laoghaire hadn’t yet lived together. It was evident that she harbored resentment towards sharing a bed with Jamie, stemming from the pain of her past marriages. However, they had legally tied the knot under the assumption that Claire wouldn’t return. Upon Claire’s return, this marriage became problematic for Jamie from a legal standpoint.
As for me, if not for Laoghaire taking aim at Jamie, we’d be in a different situation altogether. Nevertheless, Jamie found himself agreeing to compensate Laoghaire financially. To collect that money, Young Ian braved the waters, diving for the hidden treasure and gold. Unfortunately, this adventure landed him in the hands of captors, who whisked him away to Jamaica. With Jamie and Claire hot on his trail, they embarked on a rescue mission that ultimately led us to America, where we’ve now set down roots to forge a new destiny.
What does Laoghaire want in Outlander Season 7B?
For the moment, let’s focus on examining the recently unveiled images, while we leave the intricate storyline from the books untouched for now. It appears that Laoghaire is displeased about Jamie’s return, and the feeling seems mutual as Jamie isn’t pleased with her either.
It seems that this situation might stem from the debt Jamie owes to Laoghaire. The show hasn’t explored this aspect as deeply as the books did, so it remains unclear whether or not Jamie actually sent the money he promised her. It’s possible that his late payments are causing difficulties for Laoghaire.
Additionally, it’s important to wrap up those payments as well. Jamie won’t be residing in Scotland anymore. He went there to keep a promise to Jenny, but he’ll return to the United States soon. I doubt Laoghaire will take this news kindly!
